Deadline For
Homemaker Os
The Year Set
Monday. Aug. 3. is the dead
line Cor nominations in (he 17th
annual Georgia Homemaker of
the Year Program, designed to
recognize Georgia women de
voting full time to their fami
lies, homes and communities.
Application forms and in
struction booklets are now
available at the offices of the
Southeastern Fair Association,
which sponsors the program in
conjunction with state women's
organizations. Ciubs and groups
planning to nominate a Home
maker of the Year are urged
to obtain the proper forms and
instructions immediately by
calling or writing Mrs. "Sis"
Hardy, Special Activities Direc
tor, Southeastern Fair Associa
tion, Post Office Box 6826, At
lanta. Ga. 30315.
"Now is the time to get the
nominations in,” Mrs. Hardy
said. "We hope to receive them
within the next 60 days—before
vacation lime."
She emphasized that the of
ficial form must be used for
nominations. If more space is
required, additional blank
sheets may tie attached with
numbers corresponding to form.

To be eligible for Homemak
er of the Year honors, the nom
inee must be a Georgia home
maker between age of 30 and
55, a registered voter, with a
family at home consisting ol at
least one child. She must not
be regularly employed. The
nominee must actually be re
sponsible for meal planning
and preparation as well as oth
er general functions of home
making
No previous district winner
can l>e nominated two consecu
tive years Any club or group
may nominate as many con
testants as they desire.

men's Clubs. Judges will meet
between Aug, 10 and Aug. 20
to select the winners. Final
judging will be done by a rep
resntative from each sponsor

Benefits Offered
To National Guard
ATLANTA—lnasmuch as now
is the time of year when Na
tional Guardsmen and Armed
Forces Reservists are undergo
ing active duly for training
purposes, Georgia Veterans
Service Director Pete Wheeler
advises that there are certain
VA benefits available to them |
in the event ot disabilities
caused by injury or disease.
One important benefit is com
pensation from the VA lor in
juries sustained during training
or while travelling to and from
the training location. "No min
imum time of sen ice is re
quired in order to receive com
pensatkm for disabilities re
sulting from injuries." says
Wheeler, “but to receive com
pensation lor disabilities in
curred by diseases, guardsmen
must have been on active duly
for a period exceeding 30 days.
Wheeler added that to receive
any of these* benefits, a guards
man must file a claim with the
Veterans Administration estab
lishing a service-connection for
the disability.

of their jobs, accrued vacation
time anti certain other employ
ment rights Employers are re
quired to permit the reservists
to fulfill their training obliga
tions. To be entitled to em
ployment benefit protection,
however, the reservists must

the first scheduled working day
following completion of their
training

office of the Georgia Depart
ment of Veterans Service.
