ROBINS AFB, GA. (PRN)
Georgia industrial groups and
chambers of commerce are
being alerted by the Warner
Robins Air Materiel Area
(WRAMA) that a special van to
exhibit parts being bought for
the Air Force is now rolling
through Georgia and
neighboring states to drum up
, new contractor* who want to.
bid on USAF business.
The most recent tour for
the van included Griffin and
"Carrollton on Dec. 14;-
Gainesville and Athens on Dec.
15; and Augusta, Dec. 16, The
first experimental journey of
the van carried it to Dublin,
Savannah, Brunswick,
Waycrossand Valdosta.
The purpose of the van is to
show potential contractors a
representative sample of the
180,000 individual items
annually purchased by
WRAMA for the Air Force.
Porcurement activities at the
-depot each year approximate'
. $ 5 billion, with only 13.7 per
cent going to both large and
small Georgia firms.
The van results from a study
conducted by WRAMA to
determine why small
businessmen were not getting a
larger share of the depot’s
budget. Among the findings
was that the complex bid sets
require extensive legal and
technical professional
interpretation before they are
meaningful. Further, the''
process of getting 8n the list of
eligible contractors was too
long a process, and the lists
were not being purged of firms
no longer interested.
The man who took up the
cudgel for the small industry is
Major General A.J. Ileck, who >
flatly stated that the program “
to give the little man a better
break required more than lip
service. As WRAMA
commander he is responsible
. for the only facility of its kind,
of each year, and other purposes.

From AJfaretta Courtrlght.
Alvin, Texas: I remember when
we washed bottles and sold
them to doctors and druggists,
I got the first doll that I re
member by selling bottles. It
took a long time and a great
many bottles to save enough
money for a doll. The first
time I had enough money my
mother showed me aletterfrom
an orphanage. The illustration
showed a little child with plead
ing hands outstretched. The or
phans got that money.
At long last, I did get the
doll. It had a yellow, curled
wig of real hair, and sleeping
blue eyes with long false, eye
lashes! I remember tnat I
named her Flossie Violet May.
I remember my teddy bear.
It was white, for a while. When
my mother thought Teddy was
too disgracefully black, she
covered him with orange color
ed flannel she had left from
making my father’s winter mit
tens. I never saw an orange
teddy bear before or since but
if I could find bim now I think
he would be in style.
Forest fires destroy
wildlife too!
Industrial groups and
chambers of commerce
interested in having the van
visit their areas have been urged
by WRAMA Procurement
chiefs to write to “Small
Business and Contractor
Relations Office
