Perry High CVAE Students Win First In District Meet CVAE (Coordinated Vocational Academic Education; students from Perry Jr. High and Perry Sr. High attended and par ticipated in the 1972 Vocational Opportunities Clubs of America com petition held on April 14 in Columbus, Georgia. “Working together for the future” was the theme of the District IV meet which was held at Eddy Jr. High School. After the welcome and roll call, an election for the 1972- 73 District Officers was held. Vickie Hill of Perry Jr. High was elected District Secretary and Bobby Sutton of Perry High was elected Parliamentarian. Other officers elected were: President, Theresa Howell, Tabor Jr. High; Vice President, Paul Burnman, Warner Robins Jr. High; Treasure, Donna Jones, Tabor Jr. High; and Reporter, Bobby Gardener. At the meet several District IV Schools competed for individual and group honors. Perry Jr. High’s singing group placed first in State Patrol Investigates Auto Wrecks Tpr. W. E. Cawthon of the Perry post of the Georgia State Patrol investigated an accident Sunday at 5:30 a.m. 8 miles south of Perry on Georgia 96. Willie C. Felder, Route 1, Elko, was traveling east above the speed limit on Ga. 26 in a 1963 Chevrolet, records show, when he lost control of the vehicle. He skidded approximately 580 feet before the vehicle came to rest in a ditch. Felder was charged with speeding. An accident last Friday at 9:30 p.m. on Tucker Road in Perry was investigated by Tpr. W. I. Blount, Sr. Deborah Ann Smith, 1625 Marshall Circle, was operating a 1971 Pinto, traveling south on Tucker, which went out of control causing an accident. The driver stated to the in vestigating officer that another automobile was following her and she was trying to get away from it. No charges were made. Student Aides In Training At Day Care Center Three student aides are in training at the Houston Child Day Care Center in Perry, through the cooperative PERRY, GEORGIA, talent competition and brought home to their school the first place trophy and certificate of achievement. The singing group consisted of Alonzo Green, Linda Jackson, Vickie Hill, Renae Dixon, and Carl Askew. This group will participate in the state competition at Lake Jackson, Jackson, Georgia on May 13 and 14. Ronnie Denton from Perry High placed second as Outstanding Boy and received a certificate of achievement. Others attending the meet from Perry include: Edward Kendrick, Ricky Mattox, Linda Fairfax, Julius Newberry, Peggy Lynn, Franklin Ogletree, Lyn Drinkard, Brenda Brown, Bobby Sutton, Patricia King, Louvenia Scott, Annie Scott, Bobbie Jean Adams, Mr. Frank Spearman, co ordinator, Perry Jr. High, Mrs. Jeanne McDonald, Co ordinator, Perry High, Mrs. Kay Rossier and Mrs. Louise Mullis, CVAE teachers Perry Jr. High. school program, from the Perry Junior High School. They are Sadie Bryant, Helen Walker and Gloria Lundy. Their help has been very beneficial to the staff of the center and to the children. Mr. Gibson, an instructor at Perry Junior High, is the coordinator of the program. The pupils at the center enjoyed making bunnies and baskets to begin the spring activities. Many brought discarded items from home to be used. They also were surprised with individual candy and cookie packs, with miniature toys, from the Grant Store in Perry, and express their appreciation to Grant’s for their thought fulness. Services Held Here For Houston County Native Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 15, 1972, for Julius Duffie, a lifelong resident of Houston County, in the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Thomas officiating. Survivors are, a wife, Mrs. Hattie Duffie of Perry, four daughters Mrs. Annie Marion Bryant of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Georgia Thomas of Hawkinsville, Georgia, Mrs. Mabel Mitchell and Miss Doris Duffie of Miami, Florida, four sons, Mr, Milton Duffie of Rochester, New York, Mr. Julius Duffie, Jr. of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mr. Harvey Eubanks and Mr. Edward Duffie of Miami, Florida, sixteen grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
