That’s what this summer is all about. And like always it begins with the beautiful month of May. The month is which I was born. Taurus, with Gemini rising: a rather awkward con junction they tell me. But when I was growing up, I didn't know about the stars and about how their rays had pierced my head and were leading me about on guiding strings. “Had a bad day, Monday, Susan? Well, I’m not surprised. You had an eclipse in Leo.” So now I shrug and play the game and ask when Saturn will please go away, knowing all the time that anyone raised on the doctrine of “You’ve made your bed. Now lie in it” can cast a daily chart for the rest of her life and still be aware that she, and she alone, got herself into whatever situation she's in. But what else comes with May besides a lowering bull? What arrives? Beautiful packages from my family. And books from friends, and, depending on his mood, a card from my brother which features a phrase of jovial words flailing my ability to nag. And all month long comes strawberries and asparagus. Yes. May is a great month for shopping. Anything from shoes to indoor and outdoor furniture. Mailing "CARE" packages to friends taking college finals. A word of cheer can do so much to brighten a long day. Maybe the latest issue of Cosmopolitan, the hilarious Mad. or a humorous card. Planning for this summer's trip to Daytona. (You need reservations about 6 months in advance because of Disney World traffic) Don’t forget to surprise your Mother on Mother’s Hay, May 14. I hope that you're not planning to give her the annual gift and Happy Mother's Day” blessing alone! The Agen cy’s major thrust programs How does 73°differ from 787 It takes 25 percent more electricity. Imagine what that does to your electric bill. Air conditioning can use more power than all your other electric appliances put together. When you set the thermostat lower than necessary for comfort, the extra power is needless expense. Rates went up last year and will be reflected in cooling costs this summer. But there are ways to use electricity more efficiently and cut down on your bill. Set the thermostat on 78.° And adjust it 5° higher while you're away from home. Keep filters clean. Clogged filters will overwork the system. Keep windows and doors shut, and close draperies in the sunniest rooms. Shade trees help, too. Good insulation and weather stripping can lower operating costs. Air conditioning is even affected by the heat from a light bulb. So turn off unnecessary lights. Starting to save electricity takes a conscious effort. But it can become a money-saving habit.
