Downtown Perry, Georgia The Outstanding Cadet Ribbon was presented to the outstanding Sophmore, Junior and Senior Cadet. The recipient of the award from each class must have high moral character, demon strate positive personal attributes, display out standing military potential, and attain adademic and military excellence. Cadet Brian Eastman of 1410 Cambridge Road, Perry, received The Award as Outstanding Sophmore Cadet. Cadet SSGT. Marcus Lee of 1208 James Circle received The Award as The Outstanding Junior Cadet, and SSGT James Jerry Vance of 1108 Creekwood Drive, received The Award as The Outstanding Senior Cadet. The AFJROTC Out standing Flight Ribbon was presented to all members of “C-Flight”. Personnel in this flight who received the award were: Cadet Captain Garry Beavers, Cadet Ist LTS I-arry Beavers, Reggie Buchanan, Steve Howard, Cadet 2nd Lt. Jack Brewer, o Cadet Sgts. Terry Gleaton, Ed Warren, David Vuxta, Cadet AIC’S Dean Noted Plant Physiologist Speaks At Newcomers Meeting At the Newcomers mon thly meeting held on May 4 at the Security Federal Building, Dr. Bill Horton spoke on residential land scaping and Bonsai planting. Dr. Horton is plant physiologist, Southeastern F ruit and tree, nut Research Station at Byron. Dr. Horton gave several ideas for landscaping with special emphasis on plants that grow well in the Middle Georgia area. He advised that the local county extension office was always available with literature on plants for landscaping. Bramlett. Harold Haslem, Russ McKinley, Doug Rembisz, and David Willingham. Cadet AMN Bobby Askew, Scott Biggs, Russel f~^erdonaid Visiting Mrs A. L. Downs from Portland Oregon is her sister Mr.W. H. Wood. Mr, and Mrs. Jerry Rogers and daughters, Melanie and Penny, spent the weekend with Mr. Rogers’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Rogers, at their home on Lake Sin clair. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Hay, Jr. spent the weekend in Savannah and Pine Harbor visiting relatives. Area Bankers and their wives attending the Georgia Banker’s Association Cruise to San Juan, Puerto Rico, April 23-30 were Mr. and Mrs. liewis Meeks and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Stubbs of Perry, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Doctor Horton brought several plants that he was growing for Bonsai and named several others that could be used. He also demonstrated the procedures used in Bonsai planting. After Dr. Horton’s presentation Barbara Glassford called a short business meeting. The meeting was concluded with light refreshments. The regular meeting of the Newcomers will not be held, instead there will be a picnic on June 30 at the home of Barbara Glassford, 1410 Cambridge Road. Buchanan, Jackie Davis, Willie Harrol, Herbert Hart, Michael Hearn, Robert Kendrick, Bonnie Lamb Horace McGhee, Earl Rawls, Bobby Walker, and Charlie Washington. Allen of Marshallville, Mr. and Mrs. Bert McCowen and Mr. and Mrs. Geon Moore of Ft. Valley and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Ryals of Unadilla. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Connell and children, Danyne and Dan, toured points of interest in Florida last week and visited Silver Springs, FI. Myers, Sanibel Island, Disney World and Daytona Beach. Kathy Stafford and Brenda Ransome were in Spar tenburg, S.C. for a Horse Show during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. FYank Lower and daughter, Laurie, of Last Point were the weekend guests of Mrs. M. M. Dean. Mr, and Mrs. Ernest Sizemore, Mr. and Mrs. Paul King and Mr. and Mrs. John Warner and their families camped at Blackshear for the weekend and at tended the DeMolay and Rainbow Girl Jamboree. Mr. and Mrs. David Phelps attended the Deep South Rose Show and convention in Jacksonville, Fla during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Harris of Lawrenceville were guests of Mrs. Harris’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ogletree for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Heard of Chattanooga, Tenn. visited Mrs. B. H. Newberry and other relatives in Perry and Henderson during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Able and family were the Perryan Named Finalist For U. Ga. Dean Tate Award Woody Hunt, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William W. Hunt of Perry, has recently been chosen one of the five male finalists in the Dean Tate Outstanding Sophomore Award at the University of Georgia. Selection for this distinctive award is based on leadership in extra curricular activities as well as on academic stan dings. This award is spon sored by Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and is given an nually to the Outstanding Sophmore male and female. Woody, a sophomore majoring in Pharmacy, is Vice-President of Gamma Beta Phi Society, an honorary leadership organization, secretary of Circle K, service organization for men, a member of the Russell Hall dorm council, a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, and a chosen delegate to the In terfraternity Council, the coordinating body of fraternities onthe University campus. Woody has also done volunteer work through the Red Cross at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, and served as a Big Brother to one of many underprivileged children through the University’s Com muniversity program. Woody recently received his acceptance to the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy, which he will enter this fall quarter.
