charges.
Robert Calhoun, age 57
and his wife Carrie Mae
County District Attorney’s office; Special Agent
Jim Hooks of the Division of Investigation, State
Dept, of Public Safety; Terry Joiner, Special
Investigator for the county Sheriff’s Dept.; and
DOI Agent A. J. White.
Calhoun, 55, were arrested at
approximately 11:16 a.m. at
their residence listed as
Route 1, Box 454-A,
Hawkinsville. Although the
home is on the Hawkinsville
mail route, it is in Houston
County near the Pulaski
County line.
Arresting officers con
fiscated a number of gam
bling apparatuses, more
than $13,000 cash, several
guns, and liquor, according
to Jim Hooks, Special
Agent for the Division of
Investigation for the State
Dept, of Public Safety
(formerly Georgia Bureau of
Investigation.)
Robert Calhoun was
charged with commercial
gambling, gambling,
keeping a gambling place,
communicating gambling
information, and possession
of gambling devices or
equipment.
Carrie Mae Calhoun was
charged with commercial
gambling and with com
municating gambling in
formation.
Calhoun was released on
$5,000 bond and his wife on
SI,OOO bond after a hearing
before Justice of the Peace
Alton Rainey.
“This was one of
the largest commercial
gambling operations in the
Middle Georgia area,”
Hooks said.
