«The Cook’s Nook
By Mildred E. Warren
1 hope everyone had a glorious 4th
of July. It is a holiday that is a
priviledge for all Americans.
And now we look forward to the
summer days ahead. For today’s
Nook I bring you a “concoction” of
mine, an Easy Bing Cherry Salad. I
noted a sale of gelatin in the grocery
store sometime ago, and picked up
several packages of Blackberry
flavored gelatin. I had a can of Black
Cherries (Bing style) so decided to
make a congealed salad. I cut little
diced pieces of cream cheese to “go
along” and it was delightful. So today
I bring it to you.
Another goodie for today comes
from Jean Gossett. Those of you who
have made her Refrigerator Pickes
know that her recipes are delightful.
This one for Hello Dolly Squares is a
delicious cookie idea for you. Last of
all, and once again I reprint a popular
recipe, this after many requests ...
’tis for Squash Pickles. They are good
and delicious with vegetables, or just
to nibble on.
EASY BING CHERRY SALAD
1 (3-ounce) package Royal
Blackberry gelatin
1 cup boiling water
1 can (1-pound) Black or Dark
Cherries (Bing Style)
% cup cherry juice
Mix gelatin with cup of boiling
water. Add cherry juice. Place 5 or 6
cherries in individual molds. Pour
gelatin mixture over to fill molds.
Place in refrigerator to congeal.
Serve with Mayonnaise and tiny
cubes of cream cheese, about dice
size.
NOTE; add 2 or 3 tablespoons of
Port wine to this recipe if you like for
