Our
Health
By C. H. Tracy. M.D.
l*Uny yearn ago. my mother
con ml led a dermatologist
about a case of psoriasis. He
gave her a prescription for a
lotion which seemed to help
her a great deal. Now, I And
that I am developing a series
of scaly patches, with dryness
and liakiness op my elbows
and down the underside of my
forearm. While It does not
have the redness that my moth
er's condition had. I am won
dering if this is a forerunner
ot psoriasis. Also. Is psoriasis
inherited?
The chances are your moth
er's condition has no bearing
on your own,
■ although there
is a hereditary
factor in about
one third of the

sounds like a problem which
Is faced by many women who
wash dishes and clothes by
hand Always careful to wear
rubber gloves, these women
protect their hands, but neg
lect their forearms and el
bows thus they avoid deter
gent hands, but end up with
"dishpan elbows."
Often, the suds a woman
works with will dribble down
her arm, leaving harsh chemi
cal deposits on her skin. The
result is as you describe: dry
ness, scaly patches, flaking
skin, and sometimes Itchiness,
which of course, aggravates I
the flakiness through scratch I
ing I
Usually, the condition can be I
cleared up by a combination I
of two things: 1) avoidance I
of the type of soap she is us I
mg (since It may simply be too |
bars!) for her skin) and more I
careful rinsing and drying of I
the urea involved; and 2) use of I
a soothing, therapeutic lotion
which will ease the dryness I
and (Inkiness and relieve the
itching as well Keri Lotion I
has these antipruritic prop
•‘rlies to curtail Itching and
will cover the urea with sooth
ing, healing dim until it has I
cleared up. I
