The main architect of the North’s valiant fight was Stratford’s Joey Claxton who sizzled the nets for 18 first half points. In the final half Claxton tired and the North chances went down the drain. Out dueling Claxton was the South’s big gun, Scott Houston from Southwest Georgia. Claxton’s two free throws tied the score at 2-2 before Scott Houston got his first two points with 7:01 still left. Claxton and Houston continued to swap scores until with 3:37 remaining in the first quarter the score was tied 10- 10. Houston went outside and hit from the top of the circle to make the lights flash 12-10. After a Bubba Redding free throw Houston hit from the left side with 2:25 left to up the count to 15-10. Redding’s jumper from the left side made the South lead by 7,17- 10 before Tony Albritton of Beechwood netted two charity tosses to cut the gap to 5, 17-12 and break a 1:50 scoring drought for the North. With 8 seconds left in the first quarter the gap was still 5 at 17-12 but the fireworks were just starting. Stratford’s Joey Claxton netted 2 free throws then stole the inbounds pass and was fouled. Claxton hit another foul shot and at the end of the first quarter the South led 17-15. Kenny Cato of Nathaniel PAGE 15-A Greene tied the game at 17-17 as the 2nd stanza started.
