September 1 at 7:30 p.m. at
the home of the bride’s
parents in Cochran.
The bride-elect is a 1969
graduate of Cochran High
School and is presently
employed by the L & H Shirt
Company of Cochran.
Her fiance is a 1968
graduate of Perry High
School, and also a graduate
of Southern Technical In
stitute, and is presently
employed by Charles
Greenburg and Sons of New
York.

Perry, became the bride of
David Scott Hathaway, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd
Hathaway of Perry, July 29.
The double ring ceremony
took place at the Perry
united Methodist Church
with the Rev. Elick S.
Bullington officiating at
three o’clock in the af
ternoon. Mrs. Emmit Akin
presented a program of
nuptial music.
Mr. Hathaway stood with
his son as best man. Ushers
were Jimmy Hathaway of
Perry, brother of the groom;
Buck Whelchel of Valdosta,
brother of the bride; F’rank
Gunn and David Hunter of
Atlanta, and Jimmy Dorsett

Mrs. Bobby Akin was her
sister’s matron of honor and
the bridesmaids were Mrs.
David Wellborn of Fayet
teville, Miss Delicia Hill of
Atlanta, and Mrs. Johnny
Ellison of Perry. They wore
long sleeved gowns of
lavender crepe and carried
nosegays of lavender and
white chrysanthemums.
The bride, given in
marriage by her father,
chose a formal gown of satin
peau de soir covered with
white lace and appliqued
with embossed lace rosettes.
The empire bodice was
accented by a Victorian
neckline and long puffed
sleeves ended with a wrist
band of lace rosettes. Her
headpiece was a Dutch
crown of lace rosettes which
held the waist length veil of
illusion lace. Her bouquet
was a cascade of white
mums centered with a white
orchid.
For her daughter’s wed
ding, Mrs. Whelchel chose a
dress of beige knit and ac
cessories and a green
cymbidium orchid corsage.
The groom’s mother wore a
pink knit model with white
accessories and a white
cymbidium orchid corsage.
Mr. and Mrs. Whelchel
entertained at a reception in
the garden at the church
following the ceremony.
Assisting in serving and
entertaining were Misses
Lynn and Carol Mills of
Albany, cousins of the bride;
Miss Wanda Perkins of
Georgetown, Miss Sheila
Pickard of Perry and Mrs.
Stephen Smith of Carrollton.
Miss Nancy Smith of Atlanta
kept the bride’s book.
For a wedding trip to
Jekyil Island, the bride
changed to a gray knit dress
with white accessories. Mr.
and Mrs. Hathaway are
making their home in
Decatur.
Miss Whelchel was
honored at several parties
prior to her wedding July 29.
A patio party was given for
the bride and groom elect at
the home of Mrs. Betty
Roper on July 1. Hosts were
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Dor
sett, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Gunn, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry
Horton, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby
Jones, and Mr. and Mrs.
John Ginn.
Mrs. A. A. White, Jr. and
Mrs. Harry Dumas honored
Miss Whelchel on July 8 at a
miscellaneous shower at the
home of Mrs. White,
Mrs. Moody Mulkey and
Mrs. Frank Kelly were
hostesses at a miscellaneous
shower on July 18 at Mrs.
Mulkey’s home.
Mrs. Wilma Morris the
grandmother of the groom,
was hostess at a luncheon at
the Houston Country
Club on July 22.
Miss Whelchel was the
inspiration for a linen
shower on July 25 at the
home of Mrs. Vernon Bentz
with Mrs. Johnny Ellison as
hostess.
Mrs. Hazel Doane en
tertained with a couples
party at her home on July 25.
Mr. and Mrs. Hathaway
entertained for their son and
his fiance at a rehersal
dinner at the Holiday Inn
preceding the rehersal at the
church.

I want to thank everyone
for the cards, flowers, visits,
and many acts of kindness
during my illness in the
hospital. The kindness of
friends will always be
remembered.
