Industrial Road Runs Into
Robins Citizen Opposition
A North Houston County
subdivision resident ap
peared before the County
Commission Monday night in
Warner Hobins to ask the
officials to re-route the
proposed Industrial Hark
Hoad in the Heritage area.
The citizen, Howard Spann,
stated that his lot and four
others would be seriously
reduced in size and value if
the road follows the
engineered route,
Spann cautioned the

commissioners that a 41 feet
deep ravine behind his home
would have to be filled if the
engineer’s route is followed.
Spann maintained that a
diagonal slice of his property
ranging in size from 40 to 170
feet wide would be taken by
the road right of way.
The resident then asked
the commission to consider
moving the road over about
250 feet eastward. He said
that land taken by the
eastward shift would consist

of "open farmland’’ with no
houses to be removed. Spann
conceded that a slight curve
might result if the road is
altered, but he said “it
wouldn’t be a dangerous
curve. 1 think it’s a shame
that our lots have to be
ruined when open land lies
behind us.”
Commission chairman
Alton Tucker was sym
pathetic to the owner's plight
and agreed "we can get the
engineers back out there and
see if they can change it. If
they can make a change,
we’ll go along with it.”
Spann came prepared to
explain his request, bringing
a map of the area. The
commissioners also viewed
more detailed maps made
available by Clerk Sonny
Watson.
In other action, the
commission granted a tax
refund of SB9 to Beverly
Chester, who had been
previously overtaxed.
Charles Carter moved that
Chester get the refund and it
passed unanimously.
A beer license was granted
to Joseph Cray to sell beer in
his case. Turned down once.
Gray had made several
improvements in his
facilities, including in
stallation of a septic tank
and bathroom. Gray's case is
near Soloman Koad in North
Houston County.
Two rezoning requests
were considered by the
commission at Monday
night's meeting, with one
being approved and one
being tabled. Richard
Pierce’s request to rezone
his property on North Davis
Drive from H-2 to C-l was
approved. Pierce wanted the
property, five acres in all,
rezoned so that he could put
up a travel trailer park.
Building Inspector Fred
Beard informed the com
mission that the Zoning and
Planning Commission had
approved the request, and
further said, "He must
submit a sketch of his park
before we approve it.” The
commissioners then okayed
Pierce’s request.
Tabled was a request by
Dr Jack Bell to rezone his
