Miss Mary Iris Fudge of
Perry and Jackson,
Mississippi, and Frank Foster
McCann of Jackson, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Frank C. McCann,
were united in marriage in a
ceremony at dusk at the First
Presbyterian Church of
Jackson, Mississippi. The
bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. James Robert
Fudge, Jr., of Perry. Doctor
Donald B. Patterson, pastor,
officiated at the double-ring
ceremony.
Spring flowers shading from
v|kte to pastel pink were
feuiured in the decorations of
the church. Centered on the
altar in front of the rose
colored dossal was a tall
arrangement of pink car
nations, fugi mums, daisies,
and pompoms in white. On
either side of the altar were
antique gold candletrees
rising from banks of emerald
ferns.
The wedding music was
provided by the Reverend
William K. Wymond, organist,
and Miss Mary Beth Hillman,
soloist.
Given in marriage by her
lather, the bride was lovely in
a gown of sheer silk organza,
designed with Chantilly lace
forming the high neckline and
a pinafore bodice edged with
ruffling, and the long full
Bishop sleeves were banded
with lace and silk ruffling. The

controlled skirt was enhanced
with scalloped lace bands
edged with ruffling, fashioned
with a deep garland on the
skirt front and bordering the
chapel-length train. An
overlay of lace formed a godet
effect at the skirt sides. The
full cloud veil of imported silk
illusion flowed from a
camelot, re-embroiderd with
lace and seed pearls. The
bride carried a round Ed
wardian bouquet fashioned of
pink sweetheart roses and
white butterfly roses in
termingled with stephanotis.
The bouquet was enhanced by
tiny white fleur d’amour and
pink satin ribbons tied in
lovers’ knots.
Attending the bride as
matron of honor was Mrs.
William E. Mims (nee Jo Ann
Thames) of Memphis, Ten
nessee. Bridesmaids were
Mrs. Donald Fitzgerald (nee
Patricia Lundy) and Mrs.
Douglas McCullough (nee
Betsy Upchurch) of Jackson.
The attendants were attired
alike in floor-length gowns of
pink voile over satin,
featuring long, full sleeves,
Empire waists, and were
trimmed at the neckline with
white lace. They wore mat
ching wide-brimmed picture
hats banded with pink voile
into a loose bow.
Their flowers were white
straw baskets fashioned of
spring flowers featuring pink
roses, shasta daisies, pink
carnations, and baby’s breath,
and were accented with
showers of pink satin
streamers.
Wayne Humphreys of
Jackson attended the
bridegroom as best man.
Groomsmen were Denver D.
Smith and Dr. Donald C.
Guild, both of Jackson.
For her daughter’s wedding
Mrs. Fudge selected a floor
length A-line gown of soft
pink, designed with long ac
cordion sleeves. She wore
matching accessories, and a
corsage of pink sweetheart
roses. Mrs. McCann chose for
her son’s wedding a late-day
length dress of pink French
imported shantique designed
on Princess lines with long
slim sleeves, featuring a
French collar and cuffs en
crusted in jewels. She wore
matching accessories, and her
corsage was white sweetheart
roses.
Immediately following the
ceremony, the bride’s parents
entertained with a reception in
the fellowship hall of the
church. A pink bud vase
enhanced the table where
guests were registered by
Mrs. Carol Fudge of Perry,
sister-in-law of the bride.
The bride’s table was
centered with a silver can
dlabra holding pink tapers
around a profusion of pastel
spring flowers. The three
tiered wedding cake was
trimmed with pink roses and
green lily-of-the-valley, and
was accented with long pink
streamers. The cake was
topped with a fresh nosegay of
daisies and miniature
rosebuds. The refreshment
tables were overlaid with pale
pink satin, and punch, nuts,
and mints were served from
silver services.
Assisting at the reception
were Mrs. Cecile Humphreys,
Mrs, Carol Smith, and Miss
Cathy Crosby, all of Jackson,
and Miss Kathy Boyer of
Atlanta. Music was furnished
by Miss Terrell Yonkers of
Clinton, Mississippi. Serving
as rice girl was Miss
Catherine Ann Fudge of
Perry, niece of the bride,
whose dress was a miniature
replica of the bridesmaids’.
When the couple left for a
wedding trip to Gatlinburg,
Tennessee, the new Mrs.
McCann was wearing a full
length dress of pink voile
featuring hand embroidery
along the closed V-neck and
accented with a deep ruffle
flounce. For her travel cor
sage, she wore the pink roses
from her bridal bouquet.
The couple will make their
home in Jackson, Mississippi.

The wedding of Miss
Suzanne Shealy O’Neal and
Mr. Brian Cubbins Wight was
a lovely event which took
place Saturday afternoon,
June 15, at four thirty o’clock
at the bride’s home.
The ceremony was per
formed before an improvised
altar in the living room. The
mantel was banked with
greenery and held an
arrangement of daisies,
loquat and magnolia leaves to
form the altar background.
Floor brass candlelabra held
lighted yellow candles to mark
the sides of the altar,
The double-ring ceremony
was performed by the Rev,
J.B. Smith, Associate Pastor
of the First United Methodist
Church of Ferry.
Miss Estelle Hughley of
West Point, Ga., pianist,
rendered the following pre
nuptial numbers: “Love’s Old
Sweet Song’’, “To An Evening
Star ”, and "My Heart at Thy
Sweet Call”.
For the entrance of the
wedding party, Miss Huguley
played Lohengrin’s Wedding
March. During the ceremony
"To A Wild Irish Rose" was
softly played.
Groomsmen were James

Talton, son of Mr. and Mrs.
H.A. Talton, Sr., of Kathleen,
Ga.
Madison O'Neal, 111, and
William Hardy O’Neal,
brothers of the bride.
Phillip Wight of Blairsville,
Ga., was his brother’s best
man.
The bridesmaids were Miss
Melanie Chesnutt and Miss
Karen Miller, both of Atlanta.
The (lower girl was Suzy
Wight, of Blairsville, niece of
the groom. She carried a
basket of daisies and roses.
The maid of honor was Miss
Debbie McCowen of Perry.
The bride's attendants wore
flowered print sleeveless
dresses which were floor
length. These summer frocks
were trimmed in green and
had coral roses as their
predominant color on an off
while background. They
carried a single coral rose and
fern tied with green ribbon.
The bride entered with her
lather, James Madison
O’Neal, who gave her in
marriage. Her white silk
jersey dress was floor length
with a chapel train. Designed
with an empire waist and long
sleeves and a scoop neckline,
the only ornament of the
bridal gown was a diamond
shaped pearl medallion at the
center of the neckline. Her
Miss Stevenson is a
graduate of Warner Robins
High School and is currently
employed by Kathleen
Grocery. The bride-elect is the
granddaughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Turen B. Stevenson
and Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Simp
son of Doerun, Ga.
Mr. Talton is a graduate of
Ferry High School and is
presently employed with
Medusa Cement Co. He is the
grandson of Mrs. Redding
Talton, Sr., and the lc»ie Mr.
Talton of Kathleen, Ga., and
Mrs. S.E. Wilder and the late
Mr. Wilder of Fort Valley, Ga.
The wedding is set for July
21 at 3:00 F.M. at the Kathleen
Baptist Church.

Capers
Wendy Eastman of Ferry,
Ga., is among those students
who qualified for academic
honors at Wesleyan College
during the semester just
ended.
To earn semester honors a
student must maintain a
grade point average of 3.3 (a B
is 3.0) during the four-months
term.
Miss Eastman is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Herbert Glassford. She is
majoring in Theatre.

formed of daisies, tropicana
roses and clouds of baby’s
breath and woodland fern tied
with white streamers. She
wore a pearl necklace and ear
rings which were a gift from

Beach, Florida.
Mrs. James Madison
O’Neal, the bride’s mother,
wore an off-white floor length
jersey dress with coral trim at
empire waist line and a coral
jacket. Her corsage was of
tropicana roses.
The groom’s mother, Mrs.
Arthur Lewis Wight, of
Sneeds, Florida, and Young
Harris, Ga., wore a long green
dress with floral design. Her
corsage was of tropicana
roses.
Wedding Reception
The wedding was directed
by Mrs. Milo Medlock.
Following the wedding
ceremony, the bride’s parents
entertained with a reception.
Assisting in receiving the
guests were Mrs. J.M. O’Neal,
Sr., of West Point, Ga., Mrs.
W.E. Beckham, Jr., Mrs.

The refreshment table was
overlaid with a white organdy
cloth over yellow silk. The
center piece was a large ice
sculptured Swan surrounded
by daisies and roses. The
mantel held hurricane lamps
and an arrangement of
magnolia leaves and daisies.
The stairway in the hall was
decorated with branches of
magnolia leaves and bouquets
of daisies entwined with
yellow and coral ribbons.
These colors were used in the
decorations throughout the
home.
The four-tiered wedding
cake was embossed with spun
sugar roses and daisies. Each
tier was supported by four
iced columns.
150 guests called to greet the
bridal couple between five and
six o’clock.
During the evening, the
bride and groom left on their
wedding (rip. The bride
traveled in a jersey print
outfit with which she wore a
coral rose corsage. The couple
will spend the summer in
Blairsville, Ga., and will go to
Tallahassee, Florida, to live in
September.
Rehearsal Dinner
On Friday evening following
the rehearsal for the wedding,
Mr. and Mrs. James O’Neal
entertained members of the
wedding party and out-of-town
guests at a dinner parly at
their home at 903 Evergreen
Street.
On Saturday morning, the
wedding parly and out-of-town
guests were entertained at a
brunch by Mrs. Dick
Roughlon, Mrs. James
Stubbs, and Mrs. Joe
Leverette of Montgomery,
Alabama, at the Roughton
home.
The bridesmaids' luncheon
was given Friday by Mrs. Jim
Geiger at the New Perry
Hotel. The hostess gave the
bride-elect a daisy corsage
and a silver cake knife. Covers
were laid lor 18 guests.
Thursday evening, the
wedding party was en
tertained at a buffet supper by
Mr and Mrs. Jim McCowen
and Miss Debbie MtCowen at
their home. The bride-elect
was given some pieces of her
stainless steel flatware 20
guests were present.
Parlies for the
Bride-Elect
Mrs. Mayo Davis and her
daughter, Mrs. W.J. Sexton,
were hostesses at a luncheon
last Thursday at the Davis

On Wednesday last week,
Mrs. A.C. Pritchett, Sr., and
Mrs. Allen C. Pritchett, Jr,
honored Miss O’Neal with a
morning coffee at the home of
the former. Assisting in fen
tertaining were Mrs. Felton
Norwood, Mrs. Vernon
Tuggle, and Mrs. W.T. Mid
dlcbrooks. The honoree was
given four individual
casseroles by the hostesses.
The refreshment table was ’
adorned with a floral cen
terpiece. Thirty-five guests
enjoyed this affair. . ,
On Tuesday morning, the
bride-elect was honored with a
party by Mrs. W.E. Beckham.

Mrs. Allen Whipple and her

cheon at the New Perry Hotel
Monday. Miss O'Neal was
given a set of apothecary jars
by the hostesses.
Among the pre-nuptial
parties for the bride-elect was
the shower-tea given by Mrs.
Tom Thomson, Mrs. William
Jerles, Mrs. Stewart Blood
worth and Mrs, Ronnie
Stanley at (he Thomson home
on Sunday afternoon, June 9.
The lea table held an
arrangement of roses,
snapdragons and daisies at
one end and the punch l>owl at
the other.
Mrs. Jim McCowen and
Mrs. Jim Geiger assisted in
entertaining.
The honoree was given a
corsage and a serving platter
by the hostesses and received
many useful and lovely gifts
from the large number of
friends who called between 3
and 5 o’clock that afternoon
