Holiday Inn Robbed
By Two Armed Bandits
Two black males, one
waving a pistol and allegedly
threatening to kill a night
clerk, early Saturday morning
held up the Holiday Inn of
Perry and look about $315. The
two had earlier allegedly
robbed a Howard Johnson’s
restaurant on 1-475 in Macon

Robins, the almost completely
reappointed Houston County
Hospital Authority formally
adopted a new set of bylavys
for both Perry Hospital and
the Perry Hospital Auxiliary
(Pink Ladies). The bylaws
were adopted on the recom
mendation of Perry Hospital
Administrator Max Poole and
new Authority Chairman
Sherrill Stafford.
The bylaws, thus adopted on
September 26, missed by only
a lew days being adopted 100
late to let Perry Hospital
fulfill a requirement in its
drive towards gaining ac

Tyrone Woodley was notified
recently by the National Merit
Scholarship Corporation that
he is a Semi Finalist in the
eleventh National
Achievement Scholarship
Program for Outstanding
Negro Students Woodley is
the grandson of Mrs. Minnie
Mitchell of Route 1,
Hawkinsville and is presently
living with Mr. and Mrs

first man returned with a
partner. One of the men
allegedly pulled out a pistol on
Cochran and threatened his
life if all money was not
turned over.
The other robber then
disabled all telephones within
sight, pulling out cords from
creditation. The Hospital
Authority had postponed for
three consecutive months
adoption of the bylaws, for
various reasons.
Still awaiting approval is a
set of new Authority bylaws,
drawn up largely by new
chairman Sherrill Stafford,
while Stafford was serving on
the board's personnel com
mittee. The new Authority
was given copies of the
proposed laws which will
govern the hospital, thus
serving as its charter and
ordinances.
In other action the Imard
voted without dissent to keep

Joseph (Jeorge of Perry.
Tyrone is one of 1,400

Lewis Truck and Tractor Co,
(next door to the Villager).

The robbery is reportedly
connected with the 2:50 A M
armed robbery of the Howard
Johnson's restaurant at the
intersection of 1-475 and U.S.
80 near Macon. There a desk
clerk reported the loss of
about SIOO by robbery by two
black males. There too the
phones were disabled.
Detective Findley said the
matter remains under in
vestigation. Other police
departments have been
alerted. Corporal Gene
Langston, and Patrolmen Roy
Lee Mathis and Jim West
investigated the robbery while
on duty Saturday morning.

Hooks was called in early the
next morning on the case.
This is the third robbery of
an 1-75 motel within the last
year. The Holiday Inn was hit
about a year ago, and about
ten months ago the Quality
Courts was robbed by a male
female duo who shot the
nightclerk in a leg, seriously
wounding him. Both robberies
were reportedly solved shortly
thereafter.

Brewery; Glynn Greenway, a
Robins insurance executive;
John Lovejoy, a RAFB em
ployee; and Mrs. Eleanor
Granum, a Warner Robins
housewife and registered
nurse.
Absent from the meeting,
which was held both as an
organizational confab and as
the regular monthly get
together, were Perry in
surance executive Don
Parkinson, and Preston
Porter, Jr., of Warner Robins.
Parkinson was reportedly out
of town.
Rumors are circulating that
Porter will not accept the
Authority appointment.
Porter, a black Warner
Robins resident, named to
replace another black Warner
Robins resident (Freeman
Colbert, Jr ), reportedly told
the Authority last week that he
had not been consulted prior to
his appointment.
Perry oil distributor Billy
Beckham declined the
nomination for chairman of
the nine-man Authority, but
did agree to serve as Vice-
Chairman Stafford and
Beckham both said they would
strive to the best of their
ability to adequately perform
their duties.

It has been learned that at
least fourteen persons have

Whiddon was appointed
Tuesday afternoon by the
Houston County Commission
as Vocational Counselor at the
Houston County Correctional
Institution. He replaces Earl
Cheek, who resigned several
weeks ago to accept a position
as Senator Sam Nunn’s field
representative.
The commission in other
action approved the purchase
of two Electro-Search metal
detectors, at SI,OOO apiece, for
use at the new County Jail and
Correctional Institution on
Kings Chapel Road in Perry.
The two detectors are similar
to those used by airlines and
were purchased from Nor
thwest Airlines. The detectors
will prevent peopie from
smuggling weapons or saws
into prisoners.
The commission also ap
pointed, subject to his ac
ceptance, Deputy Warden
W.B. Livingston as director of
the county’s solid waste
management system. If he
accepts the position,
Livingston will co-ordinate all
phases of the program, in
cluding dumpsters, the land
fill, and the trucks.
If Livingston accepts the
solid waste directorship, the

looks better and works more
easily than the present

board that trying to switch the

for up to a year.
The narrow, dangerous
bridge presently on Moody
Road will be torn down, when
the new one is complete. A
new route will be followed
the road and bridge. Instead*
dipping down into the “bot
tom” near the lake, the road
will swerve south a few
hundred feel. Warden Allen
Stone has already begun
preparing the site for con
struction.
The commission also ap
proved purchase of four (4) 12-
gauge 7 shot “High-Standard”
Riot Control guns for the
Houston County Sheriff’s
Department. $650.00 was
transferred from the uniform
budget to the equipment
budget within the Sheriff’s
budget.

Casey said he anticipates
about six weeks before the
new dumpsters and truck
arrive, once the city officially
purchases the truck. The
funds for the new truck are in
the budget this year.
