LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Reader Charges Unfair
Dogcatcher Tactics Here
(Editor's note: The dog
catcher mentioned in Mrs
Neal s letter here is no longer
with the City of Perry The
City now has a new Canine
Officer, Gerald Aultman.
Dear Bobby:
Many limes I've read, il you
have a gripe let the HHJ know
about it I (eel that I have a
huge one, but when my letter
is finished I wonder if you will
consider il to be of any interest
to anyone other than myself.
Near the first of October,
1972. my lamily and I moved
Irom the country to the City of
Perry and shortly alter we
had several letters including
one Irom the mayor at that
time saying welcome to the
City.
There were several copies of
the HHJ delivered to us which
I guess was a very nice
complementary welcome
from you and your staff.
Although 1 didn't hear it 1 was
told WPGA also said its
welcome. Now all this made
us feel great so we didn’t
worry about our location.
We have dogs, of course,
including one we brought from
the country with us, so he is
quite accustomed to running
free. Because of this we
decided our neighbors might
complain, so we added a fence
to our property.
On one beautiful day in June
of this year the dog catcher
came rolling up. 1 ordered him
to leave, but only after ex
changing words and lingering
for a few moments talking on
his truck radio, did he finally
leave. I then went on with my
duties of taking care of my
eighty-eight year old mother
who has heart failure and is
partially paralyzed from a
stroke.
A short time later the dog
catcher returned and this time
since 1 was preparing lunch I
had a knife in my hand. Again
I ordered him to leave but he
did not. Meanwhile the f#Sce
told him on the radio in the
truck to get on down the road
and still he did not obey his
orders. He spoke to the police
once again on the radio and
they advised him to back off
my property until they got
here. Even then he made no
effort to move. I asked,
“Didn't they tell you to back
off this property until they get
here?” He then backed the
truck out onto the road.
