At State Convention
Local UDC Chapter
Presented Five Awards

Five awards were won by
the Sgt Clinton C. Duncan
Chapter of the United
Daughters of the Confederacy
at the annual convention of the
Georgia Division, held Oc
tober 6-9 at Callaway Gar
dens The chapter was also
honored by the election of its
president, Mrs. A.L. Downs, to
be historian of the Georgia
Division
Perhaps the outstanding
award was the McLeod silver
win for having the best Con

Mrs. A.L. Downs, president of Sgt. Clinton C. Duncan Chapter, U.D.C.,
recently elected historian of the Georgia Division V.D.C., is shown with the
two silver awards won by the local chapter, which are on display at Overton
Jewelers. Carroll Street, Perry.

Mrs. John Hodges and Mrs.
Hollis Kezar were co
chairmen for this observance,
held April 26 at Westfield
school. The speaker was Dr
Leonard Cochran, retired
Methodist minister of Perry
Jim Worrall presided and
presented the speaker
The chapter presented two
Crosses of Service to
descendants of Confederate
veterans Recipients of these
were Mrs Margaret Hamilton
who was a Wave in World War
II and Capt. Harvey NeSmith,
Jr, a Viet Nam veteran now
stationed at Moody Air Force
Base, Valdosta, Ga.
Other awards included the
following: Superior Chapter
Certificate; Tyson Goblet for
selling advertisement for
U.D.C. Magazine; Cash award
for largest contribution of
funds to libraries in lieu of
books, based on a percentage
basis; Cash award given
chapter president, Mrs.
Downs, for most books read by
her this year on Southern
Literature.
In addition to the above, the
Sgl. Clinton C. Duncan
Chapter has contributed to the
memorial, historical,
educational, and patriotic
objectives of the general
U.D.C. organization.
The silver urn and silver
goblet awards are on display
at Overton Jewelers on
Carroll Street.
Business Women
Hold Meeting
The Perry Business
Women’s Club held their
regular meeting October 10 at
Ochlahatchee Clubhouse with
27 members and one visitor
attending
The tables were beautifully
decorated in keeping with the
Halloween theme.
After a delicious meal was
served, a business session was
held with Mrs. Dee Peavy,
club president, presiding
Hostesses for the evening
were Mrs. Myrtle Buckner,
Mrs. Carrie Lee Marshall,
Mrs. Carolyn Cawthon, and
Mrs. Rubye Story.
Local ROTC
Gets Briefing
On Monday, October 7, the
Perry High School AFJROTC
staff members attended a
stand up briefing of the 19th
Bomb Wing at Robins AFB.
The Cadet Staff and Wing
Staff were briefed on weather
conditions and all airplane
flying status. During the
meeting Cadet Lt. Col. Joe
Nadeau presented the SAC
Commander, Colonel Mc-
Cartle, with a ROTC cadet
patch and a Perry Panther
School patch for his aid to the
cadet squadron.
