V \< BY MILDRED I. WARREN
This week’s Nook is an all request
number. First, I have a request for
Pickled Cherry Pepper. This one is
for Edna Broyles of Canton, N.C.
(Edna is Bill Rhodarmer’s sister.)
Edna, 1 hope this is the recipe you’ve
been looking for; it comes from Lee
(Mrs. Bill) Williams who made the
most delicious pickled peppers in this
manner. Lee is really “guest editor’’
for the week as she was gracious
enough to share her recipe for Corned
Beef and Cabbage along with her
pickle recipe. This recipe was
requested by a gentleman friend, and
methinks it will appeal to many
others.
Last of all a Pear Relish that has
been requested by many.
PICKLED CHERRY PEPPERS
Wash peppers and wipe dry. Cut
stem off peppers. Scald peppers by
pouring boiling water over. Let stand
for 3 minutes, then drain and put
peppers in cold (ice) water to crisp.
Drain, Place in clean sterilized jars.
Fill to overflowing with hot syrup
made in the proportion of 1 cup of
sugar to 2 cups good apple cider
viengar. Seal immediately. This
makes about 2‘/a pints.
CORNEDBEEFANDCABBAGE
4 to 5 pound corned-beef brisket
1 clove garlic
2 whole cloves
10 whole black peppers
2 bay leaves
8 medium carrots, pared

Boards interest in our children
and their music.
Band Booster Club was
formed several years ago to
be of assistance to the band
students and their directors in
as many ways as possible.
Moral support and financial
support for buying uniforms,
etc., has been a major con
tribution. Members of the
group can be parents of all
children under the direction of
Mr, Acosta and Mr. Erdman
and also any interested person
can belong even though they
have no children involved
directly.
There will be a Band Open
House on October 22 at 7:30
P M at the Morningside
Junior High School. The public
is invited to attend and we
urge the parents of all
students to attend. There will
be a program presented by
Mr. Erdman and some of his
students plus refreshments
and door prizes.
A highlight of the evening
will be having Mr. Glen Heck,
Board of Education member,
answer questions concerning
the Boards involvement with
the band and Mr. Acosta and
