Cubs’John Ridley Returns Interception
Crush Rumble 34-6
Erwin’s Cubs f
Get Revenge
Last Thursday at Perry
High Stadium the Perry Bth
grade avenged the Rumble Bth
grade Imps for a 6-0 loss
earlier in the season. The
Panthers whipped the Imps
soundly 34-6 showing signs of a
county championship in the
near future. The Panthers
record stands at 4-1, while
Rumble fell to 2-3.
Rumble got on the
scoreboard first, scoring on a
long touchdown pass in the
first quarter. Perry came
right back with a 68 yard TD
pass from QB Lynn Smith to
SB Sam Kendrick. The PAT
was no good.
Perry scored three more
times in the second quarter as
Sam Kendrick scored twice on
15 and 22 yard runs, and John
Ridley scored on a 5 yard
burst. Sam Kendrick and
Randy Lumpkin scored one 2-
point conversion after two of
the touchdowns. Two of the
PAT's failed. The score at
halftime was Perry 28,
Rumble 6.
“1 felt fairly at ease at
halftime,” Coach Erwin said,
"although we had scored a
couple of times on short drives
after their mistakes. But we
had also stuck ’em on defense
with the exception of that long
pass play. John Ridley just
lined up on the wrong side of
the field, and the end he was
supposed to defend was wide
open.”
“They came out in the third
quarter and gave us the ball
three or four times on fum
bles, pass interception, but we
couldn’t get but one touch
down,” Erwin staled.
Ridley scored his second
score. QB Harris com
plimented his throw by
skirting the left side for the
PAT and the Cubs led 8-0.
The Cubs’ defense played a
great ball game. Coach Dan
Shelton had nothing but praise
for his defenders. Noseguard
Henry Jackson had eight
individual tackles and a
fumble recovery to his credit
and he jammed the middle all
afternoon. Defensive end
Benjamin Holmes also had a
good game on defense with
seven individual tackles and
numerous assists. Linebacker
Arthur Harris did a great job
at his position having seven
individual tackles and doing a
fine job returning punts (one
for a TD that was called
back). “Defense was our
strong point, and it has been
since our opening loss to this
same team 18-14. Defense can
win for you, because it has for
touchdown of the night on a 38
yard scamper. PAT failed, but
Perry lead 34-6 on what was to
be the final score.
Coaches Erwin and Warlick
praised offensive line blockers
Jimmy Linder, Marcus Riley,
Andy Poole, Bobby Woodard,
Keith Owens, Eddie Porter,
Willie Anderson, Darryl
Parker, Carl Bass and Carl
Walker. Randy Lumpkin,
Clarence Bogan and Sam
Kendrick also blocked well.
Lynn Smith, John Ridley
and Sam Robertson led the
defense with 6 tackles each.
Clarence Bogan and Randy
Reese had 5 tackles apiece.
Reese also blocked a punt and
intercepted a pass. Ridley also
had an interception. Smith
recovered two fumbles, while
Greg Bennett, Andy Poole and
Marcus Riley recovered one
each.
The specialty teams
covered kickoffs and punts
very good, causing a fumble
that led to the fourth Panther
touchdown. John Ridley had
94 yards in 13 carries, Sam
Kendrick 50 yards in 8 carries
and Randy Lumpkin carried
once for 12 yards. Kendrick
caught two passes for 71
yards, Lumpkin picked 2
passes for 5 yards.
Both Coach Erwin and
Warlick would like to thank all
the people that have been
supporting these future
Panthers this year and would
like for them to continue to
support them. Next game is
October 24 at Rumble Field
against Warner Robins Junior

us. Rumble fumbled five
limes and we recovered three
of them. Henry Jackson, Ira
Foster, and Kenny Malone
had one recovery each. Each
time an Imp fumbled there
were two and three Cubs
popping them. We’ve got to
keep this kind of play going for
us, and I'm sure the boys are
in high gear now, just keeping
them there will be our only
problem,” coach Shelton
staled.
The rest of the scoring for
the afternoon went in this
manner. Late in the second
quarter, QB Arthur Harris
cranked up his arm again and
heaved another TD pass to end
Charlie Culler 35 yards. The
PAT failed aqd the Cubs led at
half time 14-0. With time
running out in the third
quarter, QB Harris busted the
Imps right side for 20 yards
