Third At State
Westfield High sophomore
David Bryant recorded a third
place finish in the SEAIS AA
State Track Meet held
recently at Deerfield Bryant
leaped 19 feet, one and seven
eighths inches He also took
sixth in the 220 yard dash.
Senior Bill Rigdon was fifth in
«/ the mile run.
West Captures Two Events
Panther Cindermen '
Win Region Crown
The Perry High School track
team captured its first region
title in recent memory last
Wednesday, in Perry, by
trimming Americas and
Peach County for first place.
Perry, by virtue of their
second and fifth place finish in
the last event of the day - the
mile relay - recorded 104
points, while Americus and
Peach County tied for second
position with 103 points. Dodge
County was next with 87,
followed by Dublin with 52 and
Jones County 46.
Several outstanding per
formances were turned in by
Coach Willie Street’s and
James Kinchen’s Panthers as
the local thinclads placed in
fifteen of the sixteen events.
Senior Bobby Little topped the
region in the high jump with a
leap of 5-8 and junior Eddie
West nabbed two first place
finishes in the mile and two
mile run respectively. School
records were set by West in
both events, a 4:36.0 in the
mile and a 10:39.0 in the two
mile.
The Watkins brothers,
Kenneth and Donald, gave the
Panthers a first and third
place finish in the 880-yard
run, with Kenneth taking the
event with a timing of 2,07.
Donald finished at 2,09,
The Panthers’ mile relay
team of Larry Adams, Donald
Watkins, Kenneth Watkins
and Ricky Bass almost gave
Perry another first but were
nipped by Americus in a
"photo finish”.

The Discus was the only
event the Panthers did not
place in the top five finishers.
In winning the region 3-AA
track crown the Panthers
qualified for the state A A meet
in six events with first or
second place finishes. Eddie
West, with his triumphs in the
mile and two mile; Bobby
Little, high jump; Kenneth
Watkins in the 880 and triple
jump; and the mile relay team
will represent the Panthers at
the state meet Thursday,
Friday and Saturday in Jef
ferson, Georgia.
