Kiwanis, Tolleson Nab Wins
In Perry Jr. League Openers
The Perry Little League
season held its formal opening
on Monday, May 26, at
Ochlahatchee Park Mr Ken

Erwin's Thinclads Rewrote
Record Book This Season
The 1975 track season will be
one the Perry seventh and
eighth grade thinclads of
Coach Dicky Erwin will never
forget. With an explosive
array of talent at his disposal.
Erwin's clnderman
demolished all opposition and
won every meet they entered
The Perry contingent rolled
up an awesome total of 497.5
points, to easily outdistance
runnerup Northside with 370.8
points Rumble completed the
season with 215.3 points, while
Tabor and Warner Robins
registered 188 and 148 points
respectively.
Erwin's county champions
also rewrote the record books
as his kids snapped nine
school records, three of them

missioner for 1975, had the
opening remarks He in
troduced the Pee Wee teams
and their coaches, and the
regular teams and their
being county standards.
Eighth grader Lynn Smith
broke the county mile record
three times during the season
and finished up with a record
setting 4.57.0 mile in the final
meet of the year. It marked
the first time the 5.00 barrier
had been broken by a seventh
or eighth grader in Houston
County track history.
Another eighth grader, John
Ridley, snapped two county
records The graceful Ridley
established new standards
with a 20-4.5 in the broad jump
and a leap of 5-8 in the high
jump.

Mayor James McKinley threw
out the first ball for the

Ridley (440 relay) 48.0; Sam
Kendrick and John Ridley (100
yard dash) 10.6 (tie for school
record set in 1972 by Ken
Lumpkin); Bobby Woodard
(880 yard run) 2:16.6; and
Stanley Bass, Sam Kendrick,
Steve Stripling. Lynn Smith
(mile relay) 3:59.7.
The Perry seventh-eighth
grade cindermen wound up
the season with more points
(497.5) than any team in the
county had aggragated since
1970, they also had the most
points totaled in one meet by
any school this season (70).
John Ridley paced the
junior Panthers in individual
total points with 107.5, while
Sam Kendrick was next with
opening of the 1975 Little
League Season The opening
games were Kiwanis vs. Red
and White and Tolleson vs
Andrew-McLendon. Umpires

Season At Moody Rood *
The Houston County
Baseball for Youth program
opened its 1975 season last
Saturday at Moody Road
Park. Action for Perry teams
continues next week with a full
slate of games.
Next Monday night the
Perry Leigh Casuals “A”
Astros battle the Darts at 6:00
P.M. Following that game, at
7:45, the Perry Moody Motors
Panthers “A” will tangle with
the Eagles. Both games will
be played at Old Houston High
field.
Wednesday evening will pit
the Getz “T” Panthers against
the Perry Kellwood “T”
Pirates beginning at 5:45 PM.
At 6:45 P.M. the Perry Leigh
Casuals “B” Astros will
engage the Cards, and at 8:30
P.M, the Perry Dixie Finance
“B” Panthers battle with the
Hawks. All three games will
be played at Old Houston High
field.

Hot Temperatures
Produce Low Scores
Hot temperatures, in the
nineties, continue to produce
low scores in weekly dogfights
at Perry Country Club. Last
weekend was no exception as
two teams tied for first place
with plus-19 scores. The plus
-19 totals were the best scores
of the year.
The winning teams of Ken
Colson, Carl Pierce and Willis
Harrison; and Ed Royal, Bill
Sawyer, and Jim Thomason
trimmed the trio of Dick Weik,
Perry Club Council will offer tennis lessons this summer at Ochlahatchee
Park on Frank Satterfield. Above, instructor Kenny Camp shows Martha
Hooten the correct tennis grip. Lessons will be available for SIO.OO. Sign up at
the swimming pool or call Kenny at 987-0124.
