Perry Hospital is, of course,
open for service 24 hours a
day. The medical staff of the
hospital maintains a schedule
of doctors who serve the
Emergency Room for
EMERGENCY CASES
ONLY. The doctor “on call”
does not stay at the hospital
but is usually available within
Emergency Room, and as an E.M.T. Bush is a
qualified driver or attendant. These personnel and
others at the E.R. do preliminary work before
arrival of a physician.
a short time when true
emergencies arise.
The personnel at the
hospital, as well as
physicians, are reluctant to
say anything about it, but the
fact remains that many people
“abuse” the purpose of the
Emergency Room. The E.R.
is not a handholder, or aspirin
dispenser, but is meant for
persons in emergency
situations.
Recently at the Perry
hospital, a person came in and
reported a “terrific”
headache that had persisted
for almost a week. Asked why
the person had not come in
earlier, the answer was,
“Well, I’ve just been too
busy!” The doctor in his
examination discovered that
the patient was at the wrong
place-with a toothache!
In the five year history of
the Perry medical facility,
probably almost countless
cases of “runny noses” and
headaches have been treated.
But many, many real
emergencies have also been
diagnosed, and treated.
In most cases, families who
already have their own
physician would do well, if at
all possible, to contact that
doctor BEFORE coming to
the Emergency Room.
Reasons are obvious- the
doctor may want to call in
prescriptions to be ready on
the patient’s arrival; or the
doctor may want to be there
ready to help himself. Os
course, in some instances,
prior notification is im
possible.

The Emergency Room at the Perry Hospital is the first glimpse some ever
see of the Morningside Drive facility, and it is staffed with competent,
cheerfully businesslike personnel. Doug Hutson checks pulse rate of “patient”
Phyllis Friedsam. Usually within minutes a physician can be on the scene, but
the E.R. staff insures patient comfort in the interim.
