Perry Group To
Form Art Society
A group of Ferry artists
have set a date for an
organizational meeting to
form the "Georgia Classical
Arts Society". The meeting
will be held in the community
room of The Bank of Ferry’s
Eastgate office on June 10, at 8

The purpose of the new
organization will be to
promote interest in art among
young people and adults The
society also hopes to create
I more interest in the Middle
Georgia area in the works of
classical artists
Anyone interested in joining
the new group is invited to

Christopher’s. The program will be the in
stallation of new officers. All members are urged

Houston Warden To
Head Convention
The 36th Annual Convention
of the Georgia Prison War
dens Association will be held
at the DeSoto Hilton in
Savannah, June 8-10,1975. The
Association’s President Allen
Stone, Warden of Houston
County Correctional In
stitution, announced today in
Perry that the 39 county
wardens and 25 state
superintendents-wardens are
expected to attend, along with
approximately 75
professionals in Georgia
Corrections. Members of the
Boards of Corrections and
Offender Rehabilitation will
also be holding their monthly
meeting in Savannah in
conjunction with the Wardens
Association.
Warden Stone, who has
more than eight years ex
perience within the correc
tional field, said this year’s
theme is “New Directions for
Georgia Corrections.”

Criminal Justice, Armstrong
State College, Dr. Allen L
Ault, Commissioner for the
Department of Corrections
and Offender Rehabilitation
(DCOR), is scheduled to
address the Association
during the afternoon session
on Monday. Also, William H.
Lowe, Deputy Commissioner
of Inmate Administration with
DCOR will report on the
prison population crisis.
A general assembly
business session will close out
the 1975 Convention on
Tuesday.

Last Rites Held For
Clinton Kezar Cooper
Clinton Kezar Cooper, Jr.,
46, died Wednesday, May 28,
1975, of an apparent heart
attack while visiting in
Haralson, Ga.
Mr. Cooper was a Houston
County native and had lived in
Clinton Cooper
North Carolina 13 years. He
was an accountant, a member
of the Central Methodist
Church, on the Administrative
Board, a Rotarian, a
University of Georgia
graduate and served four
years in the Coast Guard.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Martha Fountain Cooper
of Albemarle, N.C.; two
daughters, Miss Gale Cooper
and Miss Reene Cooper, both
of Albemarle, N.C.; his
mother, Mrs. Jacque H.
Cooper of Perry , two sisters,
Mrs. W.M. Davis and Mrs.
D.E, Scarborough, both of
Marietta.
Funeral services were held
Friday, May 30, 1975, at 2:00
P.M. at the First Baptist

E.F. Bellflower Dies
Early Franklin “Doc”
Bellflower, 71, died Sunday,
June 1, 1975, at his residence
after a long illness. Services
were held at 3 P.M. Monday,
June 2, in the chapel of
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home.
Rev. James Teresi officiated
Burial was in the family
mausoleum at Evergreen
cemetery.
Mr. Bellflower, a native of
Dodge County, had lived in
Mrs. Riley
Mrs. Sadie Wellons Riley,
age 84, died after an extended
illness. After funeral services
in Miami, Fla., Thursday,
June 5, the remains will be
flown to Perry for graveside
services at 11 A.M. Saturday,
June 7, 1975, at Evergreen
Cemetery. Rev. James Teresi
officiating.
A native of Perry, Mrs.
Riley had lived in Miami since
1952 having moved from
Uniontown, Pa. She was a

Church in Perry. Rev. Dan
Ariail and Rev. James Terese
officiated. Burial was in
Evergreen Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dr. H.E,
Weems, Dr. W.O. Jolly, Lewis
Bledsoe, Billy Bledsoe, Paul
Cox, C.C. Pierce, Jr., Eric
I Staples, Warren Coble.

had charge of arrangements.
Perry 42 years, moving from
Ft. Valley. He was a retired
contractor and businessman,
a Mason and a Shriner,
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Eva Locke Bellflower of
Perry; several nieces and
nephews.
Pallbearers were: D.K.
Houghton, Arthur White, Sr.,
D.N. Williamson,
Bessinger, Thomas Mason,
Lawrence Mosteller, Johnny
Williamson and Bill Overton.

husband, Jacob L. Riley, Sr.,
of Miami Shores; 2 daughters,
Mrs. A.T. Tillman of Miami
Shores, and Mrs. Arch Moore
of Charleston, W. Va.; 1 son,
Ret. Col. Jack L. Riley, Jr., of
Columbus, Ga.; 10 grand
children and 5 great grand
children.

of Perry had charge of local *
arrangements.
