The City Utilities Dept.

i customers this month and it
1 has some people confused.
The new card is blue and white

card used for years. The new
computer card also carries
additional information and

The card carries the amount
due on or before the tenth of
} the month (net amount), the

tenth (by the twentieth) of the

this Friday may pay the net

McKinley said the billing
system was changed because

Downtown Effort Needs
| Support Os Community
I
All those who doubted the ideals
and plans conceived by the Perry Re
development Authority when it was
I formed last year may now cast aside
I their dubious notions. In case you do
3 not know what the P.R.A. is all about,
it is a group of concerned Perry
1 businessmen and women who
I organized last year to set goals and
, plans for a long range "plan to
revitalize the central business district
of Perry. And, by gosh, they art doing
ji£t that.
we attended a meeting of the
P.R.A. Monday night in which many
things were discussed, including the
initial step to one-way Carroll Street
in downtown Perry and establishe
parallel parking, benches and
greenery on the main street of the
heart of Perry. Plans to bring new
business into the community were
also discussed. Remodeling of old,
delapidated stores in the downtown
area were announced with en
thusiasm.
It was, indeed, a heartwarming and
inspiring experience for us to see

New Authority Officers
The members of the Perry Re-development Authority held a meeting at the
New Perry Hotel Monday night and elected new officers. Installed to lead the
group for the next year are. from left, Perry insurance agent and
businessman, J. Don Parkinson; The Swank Shop Men’s Store owner Billy
Bledsoe, secretary-treasurer; The Bank of Perry President Lewis M. Meeks,
chairman of the Authority. The trio of officers selected to carry out the plans
of the Re-development Authority to revitalize downtown Perry are looking
over plans here for some of the first phases of the long-range program.
Perry businessmen and civic leaders
talking about positive ways in which
the downtown area can become a
very vital part of this community and
compete strongly with shopping areas
in Warner Robins and Macon....in
cluding the new Macon Mall to open in
August.
We, as the primary news and in
formation media of the entire Perry
area, want the citizens of this area to
know that a tremendous effort is
underway to revitalize the central
business district of Perry and we
strongly urge the support, guidance
and influence of all the citizens of this
community in the efforts of the Perry
Re-development Authority. These
people are with it and they have the
best interest of Perry in mind for
future months and years. They
certainly have our endorsement and,
we hope, the support and un
derstanding of the people who matter
the most...the consumers. Please
watch their progress and give the
Authority your support.

said, ‘‘This is a great day for
Perry. It is the beginning of
what will be the complete
revitalization of the very heart
of our community and I am
sure I join the citizens of
Perry in the enthusiasm and
support surrounding this
project.”
Work on the project will
probably get underway this
summer.

Downtown Stores
To Get "Foce-Lift"
Plans to remodel three
downtown buildings and the
location of a new business in
Perry were announced
Monday night at a meeting of
the Perry Re development
Authority held at the New
Perry Hotel.
At the same meeting, The
Bank of Perry president,
Lewis M. Meeks, was elected
chairman of the Authority
while Perry insurance and
businessman J. Don
Parkinson was elected vice
chairman and The Swank
Shop owner Billy Bledsoe was
re-elected secretary
treasurer. Perry contractor
and developer, W.G. Mullins,
Jr., stepped down as chair
man. He has served as head of
the group since it was
organized last year with the
long range goal of revitalizing
the central business district of
Perry. Mullins pledged his full
support and continued efforts
Starlifter Jet from Robins Air Force Base circled

the present developing three
new buildings in the downtown
area and has plans for ad
ditional renovation work in the
central business district.
Mullins announced Monday
night his company will begin
“right away” to completely
renovate “The Coffee Cup
Restaurant” and the vacant
building next door to the
restaurant on Carroll St. He
said both buildings will un
dergo a complete “face
lifting” in the Re-development
Authority’s Williamsburg
architectural and color
scheme. Mullins pointed out
the vacant building downtown
will undergo complete
restoration to show what can
be done with an old building to
make it attractive, useful and
an economic asset to the
downtown area. Mullins owns
both buildings.
J. Don Parkinson, who owns
the vacant building formerly
occupied by Joe’s Discount
Furniture and The General
Dollar Store, announced a
complete renovation of his
building to begin im
mediately. The project will be
done by Mullins Construction
Co. Parkinson also announced
the building has been leased to
Sun Valley Fashions, Inc., a
chain store specializing in
ladies fashions, sportswear
and a line of fabrics. The
company is headquartered in
Dallas, Texas, and has fashion
stores throughout the
southeast and west. Plans call
for the store to open in early
August of this summer.
Re-development Authority
chairman Lewis Meeks
stated, “The announcement of
the remodeling projects as
well as news that Perry will
get a new business is a giant
step forward in the plans of
the Authority to revitalize the
central business district.
Along with the many other
accomplishments and plans
for the future, the Authority’s
efforts are beginning to pay
off.”
Meeks said the Authority is
grateful for the cooperation
among merchants and
property owners in the central
business district and for the
continuing interest and
support of the people of Perry
in the long range
revitalization plans.
