Noted Artist Oliver Snow
Chats With Perry Students
Artist Oliver Snow (center, top photo) was special guest of Houston Library
Director Warren Phillips last Thursday at the Perry-Houston County Library.
Snow displayed several of his remarkable paintings and held two discussions,
with Perry High students (above) and with Westfield High students (below). In
the background of both photographs can be seen several of Snow’s paintings.

Mrs. Jan Cayton has been hired by the Houston
County Library System as its Children's
Librarian. Mrs. Cayton lives in Warner Robins
with her husband, who is in the service. She works
out of the base library in Perry.

Janice Cayton Is the new
children s librarian tor the
Houston County Public
Library System. Mrs.
Cayton will be working on
a rotational basis in the
Perry, Warner Robins, and
Centerville libraries She
will be developing the
children's collections and
expanding the services
available to the children
and young people In these
communities. This tall, she
will be starting a pre
school story hour and plan
occasional Saturday
programs tor school age
children
Mrs. Cayton was born
and grew up in West Palm
Beach, Florida She
received an A.B degree in
French from Wesleyan
College in 1971, and a M S.
degree In Library Science
from Florida State
University In 1972. From

Perry Newcomers
Begin New Season
The first Newcomers
meeting of the year was
held Oct. 2 at St.
Christophers Church.
The program was
presented by Margaret
Clark and Allen Whipple
They asked the club, on
behalf of the Perry Board
of Realtors, to vote on
which city or county, or
utility official, postal or
government employee
rendered the best and
friendliest service to a
newcomer. An award will
be given to this official in
♦he future.
The club had seven new
members to join and eight
visitors present.
Refreshments were
served by Dale Oakley,
Susan Pierce, and Janet
Troop 596 Takes
Honors At Camporee
Boy Scout Troop 596
participated in the
Thunderbird district
Camporee this past
weekend and came away
with several ribbons.
Senior Scout, Chris An
derson, and committee
chairman Al Cook report
that the following scouts
were in attendance:
Tommy Johnson, Timmy
Johnson, Allen Pruett, Jeff
Partaln, Joey Romubia,
Albert Lee Cook, Raynard
Mickies, Willie Williams,
Grover Jackson, and
Reginald Canady.
Tommy Johnson won Ist
prize in 3 man tug of war
Lewsader, hostesses for
the evening.
After the program the
yearbooks were handed
out and the club members
wishing to stay after the
meeting enjoyed playing
cards.
The next meeting will be
held Nov. 6 and all new
ladies in Perry are invited
to come!
NEWCOMERS CARDS
Ladies daytime bridge
was played at Judy Peck's
home. The high scorer was
Judy Gladu. At the mon
thly Friday night Pinochle
game Peggy Close was the
winner.
Anyone wanting to join
any of the card games or
be a substitute can call
Betty Dawkins at 987-1127.

forward dash. Timmy
Johnson won Ist place in
Indian leg wrestling and
2nd in Indian arm
wrestling. Raynard
Mickies took Ist place in 50
yard backward dash and
2nd place in 50 yard for
ward dash. Willie Williams
was 2nd in 600 yard walk
race. Grover Jackson took
2nd place in 600 yard walk
race and 2nd in 50 yard
backward dash. Reginald
Canady was 3rd in the 50
yard forward dash. In each
of these events the Scouts
participated in com
petition with Scouts of
their own age only.
The big event came
when the Troop took a first
place ribbon for the first
