The big news and the
entertainment to
remember for the week is
the Zeta Upsilon
production of "A World of
Magic". It will be
presented this Saturday,
the 11th, at the Perry
Annex. I have seen a
program of what will be
offered and it looks like a
fun filled show that will
amaze as well as entertain
you. Those performing the
daring and astounding
feats will be Mike Fuller,
Bob Carver, Nell Godbee,
Randy Benson and Dick
Killebrew, Doty, Bill
Vaughan and Perry's own
Heyward Boyette
I watched the "Cher"
show a few weeks ago and
she had an illusionist as a
guest who performed the
Zig Zag Lady trick as well
as levitating Cher If these
are the kind of illusions
and tricks that will be
shown Saturday night, it
will be some kind of show.

Macon Little Theater has
started its forty third
season and to kick it oft
they have Neil Simon's
"The Sunshine Boys". If
they wanted to start the
season off with a bang they
couldn't have selected a
better play.

familiar with Little
Theater in the Macon
Warner Robins area, I
have heard people
speaking of the acting
talent of John Savidge.
Finally I got to see him in
the MLT's production of
"The Crucible" last year
and I was not impressed.
His acting was passable
but not outstanding. It
must have been the part
because as Willie Clark in
take them into "A World of
Magic".
If you want to get out to a
movie this week, you
might take a chance on
this new play he writes the
book on acting ability and
timing. You owe It to
yourself to go out and see
him perform. There will
probably not be a per
formance of this caliber
♦he rest of the year. To be
honest, Neil Simon wrote a
gem of a part when he
wrote Willie Clark. And the
one liners that he gets to
throw away on stage are
sure laugh getters. But to
get the maximum out of
the role, you need a
believable, lovable per
former and that is what
John Savidge Is in this role.
He makes you laugh at his
jokes, smile at his warmth
and care about the person
he is.
The other half of "The
Sunshine Boys" is Al
Lewis, ably played by
Gosfin Freeney. His role is
not as flamboyant as that
of Willie Clark, but it still
has its charm. The
character of Willie could
not be as endearing were
he not able to bounce his
lines off Lewis. Gostin
Freeney makes Lewis a
perfect straight man.
Others in the cast in
elude Quentin Dent, Wayne
Thompson, Bruce An
derson, Lloyd Willingham,
Marlann Swank, Patsy
Fried, and Carol Kelly
Jordan. The last named is
spectacular as the "nurse"
in one of the funniest
doctor skits I have ever
seen. It is full of double
entendres that might of
fend some, but hopefully it
will be accepted as truly
Indicative of what
Vaudeville was like and
thus necessary tor the
play.
Aside from a tew racy
lines, there is a good bit of
profanity. Two old timers
speak and the lines reflect
♦heir characters. It is not
overly descriptive and
should be only minimally
offensive.
I am not overly fond of
comedies but I found this
to be one of the funniest
plays that I have seen
since I first saw "Barefoot
In The Park", also by Neil
Simon. He is a genius In his
field and can certainly
build a play around per
sons that you care about.
This play has been made
Into a movie starring
Walter Matthau and
George Burns and it will be
released in November.
Don't wait for the movie;
go to Macon and spend two
pleasant hours basking in
♦he radiance of “The
Sunshine Boys". It will be
playing nightly at 8;00 thru
Saturday the 11th.
"The Master Gunfighter".
This is the new movie
starring Tom (Billy Jack)
Laughlln and Ron
(Superfly) O'Neal. |
haven't seen It yet but the
blurbs on TV have really
intrigued me. I liked both
of the "Billy Jack" movies
so I will probably like this
one as it will be in the same
vein and style.
Other than that movie, it
is a bad month to get to see
anything. October is
always the worst month for
movies. Studios are
holding back on their
goodies until
Thanksgiving. One bright
spot Is the release this
month of the new Robert
Redford Faye Dunaway
starrer, "Three Days of
the Condor", it is one of
those CIA type film with a
plot that gets deeper and
deeper as the bodies stack
up. Still It has to have a lot
going for it to get the two
above named stars in
terested. I am looking
forward to seeing it.
TV wise, the only can
cellations so far are "Fay"
and the "Montefuscos". It
looks like some others will
soon be joining their ranks
though. The networks are
talking about a second
season starting in
November. I can
remember when a show
used to play all year before
it was cancelled. Not
anymore. You either make
a hit or you don't survive.
