Veterans
Governor George
Busbee has named
Georgia Veterans Service
Director Pete Wheeler
chairman of Veterans Day
observances in Georgia.
Tuesday, Nov 11, 1975, Is
Veterans Day in Georgia
and 45 other states, while
♦he remaining four states
and the District of
Columbia will observe the
fourth Monday in October
as Veterans Day. The
President, however, has
signed legislation (Public
Law 94 97), restoring Nov.
11 as Veterans Day,
nationally, beginning in
1978.
Wheeler said that this
year's traditional
proclamation signing
ceremonies, designating
Nov. 11, 1975, as Veterans
Day in Georgia, will be
held at the State Capitol at
11 00 AM, Monday, Oct.
27, 1975. Military leaders
representing all branches
of the Armed Forces,
members of the legislature
and veterans' groups are
expected to attend the
ceremonies on the steps of
the Capitol. The United
States Army Forces
Command Band from Fort
McPherson will perform
its "Pageant of the Flags",
All veterans'
organizations, civic clubs
and schools are being
encouraged to schedule
Veterans Day programs in
their communities. The
Department of Veterans
Service will present a
special Veterans Day radio
program Nov. 11 to be
carried by some 100
stations across the state.
The 1975 observance of
Veterans Day will honor
♦he largest group of former
military men and women
in the Nation's history.
Almost halt of America's
population is comprised of
♦he more than 29 million
veterans and their
dependents. There are
615,000 veterans living in
Georgia
Serving with Wheeler as
co chairmen to promote
and coordinate Veterans
Day observances
throughout the state will be
