This is going to be a good
week for me. A good play
opens tonight and on
Sunday one of my all time
favorite movies will be
shown on TV.
The play that is opening
tonight (Oct. 16) is Herb
G|ssdner's “A Thousand
Clowns". It is being
presented by Macon ACT
and plays thru this
Saturday at 8:15 each
night. On Sunday there is a
matinee at 2;30 and then
the play will be presented
again next Thursday,
Friday and Saturday
nights. Mike Day has the
starring role and Karen
Gresham has the female
supportive role. 1 have
seen Mike in several plays
including "The Rain
maker" and "A Streetcar
Named Desire" and he is
always good and
sometimes excellent. This
will be the first starring

and I look forward to his
performance.
The play is being
directed by Barbra
Goldberg. She is talented
both as an actress and a
director. I heard her
comment the other day
that she feels that she has
an excellent cast in this
production. I hope that she
does and that you will take
the time and effort to go
and see this play.
One of my top five all
time favorite movies is
"They Shoot Horses, Don't
They?" and it will be
shown on the ABC Sunday
Night Movie at 9:00 this
Sunday. The movie is a
study of the American
phenomena, the dance
marathon. It stars Jane
Fonda, Michael Sarrazin,
Gig Young, and Red
Buttons. It is the closest
thing to a perfect movie
that I have ever seen. The
acting is unbelievably good
and the recreation of the
thirties is authentic down
to the glass ball that hangs
over the dance floor.
I hope that the breaking
of the movie to air com
mercials does not destroy
the mood of the movie. The
tension begins about fif
teen minutes into the
movie and does not let up
until the end. I do
recommend "They Shoot
Horses, Don't They?" for
the very best in viewing.
For listening, I
recommend a song out by
the Eagles entitled "Lying
Eyes". Don't listen to the
short version that they are
playing on the radio. Get
the album and listen to the
6V2 minute version. It tells
a complete story that is.
butchered in the shorter
version. If they can make
an upcoming movie out of
Bobbie Gentry's "Ode To
Billie Joe" then they
should be able to get a
screenplay out of this one.
The Third Annual
Halloween Carnival, which
is sponsored by the Parent-
Teacher Committee at
Tucker Elementary
School, will be held this
Saturday, October 18, from
10:30-3:00 at the school.
A costume contest,
under the direction of Mrs.
Paul Armltagewill be held
at 11:00 A.M. In the school
cafetorium. Judges will be
three ministers from local
churches and prizes of 10
