Georgia Veterans
Service Director Pete
Wheeler Is urging some of
the more than 55,000
Georgia veterans
dependents and survivors
who will be receiving
Income Questionnaire
cards along with their Nov.
1 checks to be sure that
they complete and return
those "10" cards to the
Veterans Administration
by Jan. 1, 1976.
"Failure to complete the
questionnaires and return
them to the VA by the
January 1 deadline could
result in pension payments
being suspended,"
cautioned Wheeler. He
added that this regulation
does not apply to those
veterans and widows
receiving compensations
for service connected
disabilities and deaths. It
is applicable, however, to
veterans and widows
receiving pension, and
parents receiving
dependency and indemnity
compensation (DIG).
Subject to certain In
come limitations, VA
pensions are paid to
wartime veterans totally
and permanently disabled
from causes not connected
with their military ser
vices and to widows of
wartime veterans. The
amount of monthly
payments is based on the
amount of Income a
pensioner has.
"While VA benefits are
not counted as Income,"
said Wheeler, "other in
come factors such as
Social Security,
retirement, rentals from
real estate, dividends and
interest, and earnings
from employment are
considered by the VA in
determining a pensioner's
benefits for the coming
year."
As a result of legislation
enacted in 1971, veterans
and widows receiving
pensions and parents
receiving DIG payments,
who are at least 72 years of
age, have been on the VA
rolls for at least two
consecutive years, and
have had no significant
increase in their income do
not usually receive the
cards. If a card Is
received, however, it
should be completed and
returned.
Anyone desiring more
information about the
questionnaire cards or
assistance in filling them
out should visit their
Georgia Department of
Veterans Service Office,
located in Room 213, City
Hall, Warner Robins,
Georgia
