58% Os Last Year's HS
Grads Attend College
Os the 1,090 high school graduates of the public school
system in Houston County last year, more than flfty
} eight percent are advancing their education. Another
thirty-nine percent are employed fulltime, and only
three percent are presently unemployed! (Ten percent
are married.)
The statistics made available at last week's school
board meeting, indicate that 30 percent of the graduates
are in a four year college on a county wide basis, with
more than sixty percent of the top half of the graduates
in four year schools. As would be expected, the per
centage drops as one goes to the bottom half of the
diploma winners.
Another 21 percent are in junior colleges, with four
percent in state technical or vocational schools.
Os the 384 graduates who reported fulltime em
ployment, only seven were listed in the professional,

the Warner Robins Air
Logistics Center, an
nounced the impending
wage change survey
following notification from
the Department of Defense
Wage Fixing Authority.
Members of the Local
Wage Survey Committee,
managerial, or proprietary realm of business. Armed
services attracted 69 graduates, including 16 females.
A total of 104 graduates found work in clerical or sales
roles. Three listed themselves as employed in
agriculture, 32 skilled jobs, 89 in semiskilled jobs, and
23 in unskilled employment. Fifty-five students with
diplomas were listed as employed in "service" in
dustries,
Analyzing the data further shows that of the 101
persons who reported being married, only three were in
the upper fourth of their class. Sixteen were in the
second fourth, 33 in the third fourth, and 37 in the lower
fourth.
Os those graduates who were unemployed, fourteen of
the 26 were in the bottom fourth of their graduating
class. But three were in the top fourth.

This year the survey will
be conducted by telephone
to obtain wage increased
granted by private in
dustry since the last full
scale survey during June
1975. During the survey
approximately 60 firms
will be contacted in Bibb,
Houston Twiggs, and
Wilkinson counties to
obtain the required wage
data.
The wage change data
will then be tabulated and
forwarded to the Depart
ment of Defense Wage
Fixing Authority in
Washington D C., where it
will be evaluated along
with data obtained under
the provisions of the
AAonroney Amendment. If
a change in rates is
warranted, new pay
schedules will be issued
during August for ap
proximately 8,000 em
ployees at Robins Air
Force Base.
Strong Fourth Quarter
Kellwood Sets
Sales Record
Record fourth quarter
sales of $112,516,000
boosted Kellwood Com
pany (NYSE) to a new
sales record of $425,553,000
for the fiscal year ended
April 30, company
chairman Fred W Wenzel
has announced. Kellwood's
plant in Perry produces
bedspreads and draperies.
He added that audited
results showed the year's
net earnings of $7,329,000
or $2.18 per share were the
second highest in
Kellwood's history. A year
ago, Kellwood, which is a
leading manufacturer of
apparel, home fashions
and recreation equipment,
earned $418,000 or 12 cents
per share on $383,560,000 in
sales.
The company had
earlier announced
preliminary, unaudited
results that did not list
separate fourth quarter
figures.
Fourth quarter earnings
totaled $2,420,000 or 72
cents a share, compared
with a loss of $2,819,000 or
85 cents per share in the
fourth quarter a year ago.
Fiscal 1976 results in
clude additional sales of
$11,062,000 and net ear
nings of $130,000 due to
certain subsidiaries
changing to Kellwood's
April 30 year end. The

creased sales to Sears,
Roebuck & Co., our major
customer, and to other
major retailers by $42
million/' Wenzel said. "At
the same time, we im
proved our margins and
reduced interest expense.
As a result, earnings
improved sharply. Based
on commitments for fall
and back to school, we are
optimistic about fiscal
1977."
He added that Kellwood
plans capital expenditures
of about $8 million in fiscal
1977, compared with about
$6.5 million in fiscal 1976.
"We don't expect to have
any major plant startup
costs that would affect our
results," he explained.
