I've seen those tornado
films (she is a
schoolteacher) and this
was one!"
The fury of the swirling
wind struck the farm at
about 9:30 p.m. last
Wednesday night. First
damaged were several
apple trees, some uprooted
and some simply broken in
half. The high winds
continued across open field
to a "gravity" wagon and
picked it up, whipping it
through the air about forty
yards, then depositing it
upside down.
Next in the path was a tin
grain shed next to Moss
Oaks Road. The winds
completely demolished the
shed, sending pieces of tin
flying over a three hundred
yard area into a field
across the road. Over
turned was a grain har
vester.
The storm hit the Perry
area about 5:30 or 6:00
p.m, Wednesday at
ternoon, and continued for
several hours. Lightning
and heavy rainfall was
predominant, with several
sections reporting very
high winds. One
homeowner called to
report loss of electricity,
soon restored.
Tim Brumbaugh said
that in addition to the apple
trees, other trees in the
area were uprooted. Most
of Thursday morning was
occupied in the clean up
efforts.
