A few years back there
was a film called
"Westworld" which
starred Yul Brynner,
Richard Benjamin and
James Brolin. It concerned
a modern day amusement
park which featured robot
performers. The robots
went beserk and started
killing the guests - that was
the plot of the movie.

I
announced the names of
the 159 boys and girls who
had earned certificates in
this summer's program.
Forty-seven certificates
were awarded in the
Junior Vacation Reading
Club for preschoolers and
those entering the first
grade. These children had
10 books read to them for a
certificate or 25 books for a
gold star certificate.
JVRC certificates were
earned by: Alex Bryant,
Nicole Leigh Bryant,
Johnny Clark, Jr., Tony
Crockett, Minda
DeCubellis, Randall Goetz,
Bill Gottschalk, Tracy
Green, Neill Langston,
Kristi Long, Nicole Rice,
"Westworld” was a good
sized success so a sequel
was inevitable. It is called
"Futureworld".
"Futureworld" stars
Peter Fonda, Blythe
Danner and Arthur Hill. It
focuses on the amusement
park two years later. Once
again the plot concerns the
robots versus the humans
but there is enough of a
twist to make this sequel
as enjoyable as the
original. It all involves
whether a person is a
person or a robot sub
stitute.
The movie is rated 'PG'
due to language but it is
mild in comparison to
other films rated 'PG' that
1 have seen lately. All
three stars are good,
especially Blythe Danner.
She is not an actress in the
Hollywood tradition. Her
voice is a husky squeak
and her looks are far from
glamorous. She was seen
in "1776" and "Hearts of
the West", neither of which
propelled her to stardom.
"Futureworld" won't do it
either but one day she will
get the right part and she
Cristy Skinner, Fernae
Thomas, Kelly Tribble,
Bryn Warner, Greg

chester, and Tony Willard.
JVRC gold star cer
tificates were earned by:
Andy Ballard, Dale Ar
nold, Holly Arnold, Tracey
Bloodworth, Charles
Adamson Boswell,
Leighanne Cansler, JJ.
Cooper, Bryan Conner,
Dan Connell, Jennifer
Fryer, Dana Lee
Glasscock, Blythe Hat
cher, Kim Hayles, Melissa
Ann Hobly, Cassandra
Holland, Cynthia Hunt,
Candace Klein, Troy
Kovac, Andrea Langston,
will be a smash.
One reason that I en
joyed "Futureworld" as
much as I did is that it
didn't involve a single car
race, chase, or smashup.
With "Cannonball",
"Small Town in Texas"
and "Gumball Rally"
currently showing at every
other theater, it was time
tor a change. I'll be glad
when this phase of
demolition derbys is over.
Hollywood is still also
stuck on sequels. Coming
up are follow-ups to
"Jaws", "The Exorcist",
"Dirty Harry" and
"Mandingo". There is
even a sequel being filmed
to the new version of "King
Kong" and this update
hasn't even been released
yet. The sequel will be
"King Kong Goes to
Africa".
One last word. Bruce
Jenner, the decathalete,
has reportedly been ot
tered the starring role in
"Superman". This will be
a multi-million dollar
production with Marlon
Brando as his father. Who
will they get for Lois Lane?
John Langston, Michael
Lockhart, Katharine
McClure, Marla Mc-
Culloch, Sara Mashburn,
David Parker, Tracy
Pierce, Jaye Rogers, Jerry
Rogers, and Lisa Wilson.
112 certificates were
awarded in the Vacation
Reading Club for second
through twelfth grade
