Former Pastors To Preach
Methodists Set
Special Revival
An unusual feature of
Revival services to be
held October 9-13 at

announced this week the
sale of the commercial
printing department of
the company to longtime
'* HHJ production
manager, Jimmy
Chapman, and his wife,
Sandra. The name of the
new company is
Crossroads Printing Co.
The commercial
printing dept. has
operated as a separate
business in the Home
Journal building for the
past two years. The new
company, under the
ownership of the Chap
mans, is operating in new
quarters on Meeting
Street in the former
Norwood Florist and
Perry Flower and Gift
Shop building.
Jimmy Chapman said
he plans to expand the
commercial printing
operation in the months
ahead and he pointed out
that he will continue to
offer the finest quality
offset printing at
reasonable prices to his
many old customers as
well as newcomers.

including envelopes,

Dr. Leonard Cochran,
who was pastor of the
Perry church from June
1968 until June 1972, will
preach at both morning
worship services at nine
and at eleven o'clock. Dr.
Cochran, who has been a

statements, invoices,
letterheads, cards and all
other types of com
mercial printing. The
company will also
specialize in brochures
and booklets of all types.
Branch said,concerning
Ihe sale, "We had
reached the point where
we eilher had to expand
the commercial printing
dept, or sell it. We felt
that no one could do a
better job in the business
or offer the people of
Perry the complete
printing service they
deserve, than Jimmy and
Sandra Chapman, and
that is why we chose to
sell them the business."
He added, "we wish them
much success in the
future."
Branch further pointed
out that The Home
Journal is now making
plans for future ex
pansion of the
newspaper.
Chapman commented,
"It is our intention to
carry on the tradition of
fast, friendly service and
quality printing under the
new banner of Crossroads
Printing Co. We hope to
offer the very best in
offset printing at highly
competitive prices.
Sandra and I both look

Jimmy Chapman has
been employed by The
Home Journal for the
past 11 years. He has
worked in the production
dept. in both the
newspaper and com
mercial printing
operation. His wife
Sandra was employed by
The Bank of Perry for
many years until recently
when she was employed
as a secretary with the
law firm of Aulfman,
Hulbert Daniel and
Lawson. She will continue
her duties with the Perry
firm.

in Valdosta, Mulberry
Street in Macon and First
Methodist in Albany. He
served on the general
board of Missions of the
Methodist Church for
eighf years. A graduate
of Asbury College,
Wilmore, Kentucky,
where he also received
his doctorate, Dr.
Cochran is the author of a
book, "Man at his Best".
Rev. J.B. Smith
Rev. J.B. Smith, pastor
of the Perry Church from
November 1944 until June
1950 and associate pastor
from June 1965, will
preach at the seven
o'clock evening service
Sunday, Oct. 9.
Rev. Mr. Smith com
pleted fifty years in the
Methodist Ministry in
November 1976. In ad
dition to the twelve
pastorates served by Mr,
Smith, he was superin
tendent of the
Thomasville District five
years and director _ of
public relations and
finance for the children's
home in Macon for five
years. He is a graduate of
Emory University.
Jim Mcllrath
An exception to the list
of former pastors is Jim
Mcllrath who served as
youth director of the
Perry church for four
years. Mr. Mcllrath who
will speak at both ser
vices Monday, at noon
and at seven thirty
o'clock, returned to
Asbury College, Wilmore,
Kentucky in September
this year to take
theological training in
order to enter the
ministry. Jim and his
wife, Debbie, a talented
musician, were great
assets to the Perry
church during his tenure
as youth director.
Rev. Elick Bullington
Rev. Elick Bullington,
who was pastor of the
Perry church from June
1972 to June 1976, will
preach at both services
Tuesday. Mr. Bullington
has been pastor of First
United Methodist Church
of Moultrie since June
1976. He received an A.B.
degree from Emory
University and a
master's degree from
Yale University Divinity
School.
In addition to seven
pastorates, Mr.
Bullington served on the
South Georgia Con
ference board of Missions
six years and is in the
tenth year on the board of
the ministry of which he
was chairman four years.
He is district secretary of
Stewarfship and a trustee
of Andrew College.
Rev. Roy Gardner
Rev. Roy Gardner,
pastor of Perry church
from November 1939 until
November 1941, will
preach at the noon hour
Wednesday, October 12.
A graduate of Emory
University with A.B. and
B.D. degrees, Mr.
Gardner entered the
South Georgia conference
of the Methodist Church
in 1928. After forty-four

No, this is not a photograph of a submarine
docking area, though these six mammoth metal
containers do resemble subs. They are actually
the City of Perry’s propane gas tanks, and are
filled with around 150,000 gallons of propane gas.

the polls and decide who
will serve for the next two
years in three City
St. Christopher’s
To Mark 16 Years
Special worship ser
vices will be held at St.
Christopher's Episcopal
church in Perry on Oc
tober 16 to celebrate
fifteen years of worship
in the existing building.
This joyous occasion will
be highlighted by a visit
from Bishop Bennett J.
Sims of Atlanta. As
Bishop for one of the two
Episcopal diocese in
Georgia, Bishop Sims is
the spiritual leader for
seventy-six Episcopal
churches-
Services will begin at
11:00 a.m. and visitors
are cordially invited to
attend. Bishop Sims will
conduct services con
secrating the church.
Following the services a
reception will be held to
welcome the Bishop and
celebrate the occasion.
Concurrent with the
reception visitors are
encouraged to view the
church and some rare
items used in Episcopal
churches. Os the seventy
six churches in the
Atlanta diocese Sf.
Christopher's is
privileged to be one of
few to utilize both a
sanctus bell and an
ambry. These special
items were donated in
memorium by
congregation members.
The most recent
enhancement to the
church are sixteen
needlepoint kneelers
made by the ladies of the
church. The kneelers will
be a permanent addition
along the altar rail. Each
beautifully colored
kneeler has its own
unique design and is

Council Posts. The
election will be at the
National Guard Armory,
and prospective voters
have only until November
comprised of some sixty
thousand stitches.
Evangelism Seminar
Set By Presbyterians
The Perry
Presbyterian Church will
be hosting a Church
Growth and Evangelism
Seminar on October 16-18.
The Rev. Tom Hughes
will be leading the
seminar. Rev. Hughes
will be speaking at both
services Sunday and on
Baptist Loyalty
Day Is Sunday
Annual Loyalty Day will be held at the Perry
First Baptist Church this Sunday. It is during
Loyalty Day services that the congregation
makes a special offering to pay off the in
debtedness for the sanctuary and Sunday School
complex built in 1968. This year’s Loyalty Day
goal is SIO,OOO. Church members went over the
goal last year.
Hugh Lawson Jr., chairman of the Board of
Deacons of the church, said the total in
debtedness on the building is now slightly less
than $15,000.
Following the Loyalty Day services at 11:00
a.m., there will be a “dinner on the ground” at
the church.
“All of us in the ehurch are looking forward to
very meaningful day in the life of our church this
Sunday,” Lawson stated.
Four of the six tanks were purchased this year
and installed recently, in preparation for this
winter. They give the city capacity to provide
fuel for four weeks in the event natural gas
supplies run lower than normal.

The Home Journal asked
all three Tuesday evening
if they pan to offer for re
election, but Smith said
"it's too early to say yet”,
while Bloodworth said

and methods of
evangelism. Rev. Hughes
is well trained to lead
such a seminar. He is
presently the assistant
coordinator for the
Mission to the United
States Committee of the
Presbyterian Church in
America. He was for
merly an organizing
pastor and prior to en
tering the ministry he
was in systems
engineering with the
space administration.
Anyone, whatever his
church affiliation, will
benefit from this
seminar. All those who
are interested in church
growth and evangelism
