Ridley Keys Attack
Panthers Battle Back
To Tree Hounds 15-12
Down by 12 points
midway through the third
period, Perry’s not-to-be
denied Panthers fought back
to nip upset-minded Jones
County, 15-12, on a chilly
evening last Friday night.
The win upped the Panthers
record to 5-2, while Jones
County fell to 0-5-2.
“We told our kids at
halftime that we couldn’t let
them score again or we
would have been in serious
trouble,” Coach Bob Morrow
stated, “What really fired us
up was the bootleg pass
from Quentin (Harvey)
to Jimmy (Linder) that gave
us a much-needed score.
That play really aroused us."
Perry had trouble in the
first half against the Hounds
5-4 Oklahoma defense as ace
runningback John Ridley
was held to only 32 yards.
With a brilliant second half,
143 yards, he finished with
175 and hiked his region
leading total to 864. John
also scored his eleventh TD
of the season. Fullback Sam
PANTHERS OFF
FRIDAY NIGHT
With a sparse crowd on
hand and the tem

Jones County elect to

returned Alvin Boone's
kickoff 11 yards to the
Hounds 31.
The winless Hounds
started moving quickly.

Kendrick, back in action
after missing two weeks
with an ankle injury, picked
up 33 yards in seven trys.
Through the air, the
Panthers were 2-7, with
Linder catching both. Both
catches were great grabs.
Defensively the Panthers
limited the Hounds to 149
yards in 44 attempts and
held their region 3-AA
counterparts to 40 yards
through the air. Alvin Boone
picked off his fourth pass of
the season. Reserve DB
Kenny Collins saw extensive
playing time and “did a
good job” according to
Morrow. Center Dwayne
Grant and tackle Darryl
Parker received scary injur
ies but are “okay” Morrow
summed up. Kendrick also
hurt that ankle again, but
with the Panters off this
week it should give them
time for the injuries to heal.

Linder (85) Hangs On
....Caught Two Big Passes
ball for Jones County.
The Hounds had the first
break of the night.
Given a reprieve, Jones
took advantage of the
miscue and scored in
seven snaps. A pass from
QB Martin to Reggie
Bohler for 13 yards on
third down gave the
Hounds a first down on
the Perry 2. Nedd
crashed over on the next
play to give Jones the
lead with 4:18 left in the
initial stanza. Tim
Robinson shanked the
PAT, but the Hounds
owned a 6-0 lead.
Perry could do nothing
on their next possession
so they punted back to
Jones. Another fumble
occured, but this time it
was a Hound making the
bobble as Randy Lum
pkin fell on the hide at the
Jones 38.
Perry drove to the
Jones 29, but on fourth
down and less than one
Ridley was stopped short,
by inches, and the
Hounds took over. A play
later the first stanza
ended.
Cranking up their of
fense, the Hounds started
moving again. In 8 plays, on
the ground and in the air,
Jones was on the Perry 29.
But, another fumble killed
the drive and Lumpkin again
came up with the ball for the
Panthers.
Perry kept the ball for
the next nine snaps and
advanced to the Jones 30,
but two passes fell incom
plete on the third and fourth
downs and the Panthers
surrendered the ball to
Jones.
Three plays later the
struggling Panthers had
the ball back. Boone
stepped in front of a Keith
Martin pass and returned
the ball 32 yards to the
Jones 38.
Perry, again, had a
golden opportunity to
score, but again was
denied. Harvey's pop
pass on fourth down
missed its mark at the
Jones 31 and the Hounds
took over and ran out the
final 1:25 of the first half.
The scoreboard con
tinued to read, 6-0, Jones
County.
Jones County took
advantage of another
break after the Panthers
failed to record a chain
movement to start the
third period. Boone
shanked his punt only
seven yards, with the
Hounds taking over in
excellent field position on
the Perry 46.

In seven plays the
Hounds were on the
scoreboard for the second
time. Nedd again got the
call and sneaked in from
a yard out. A pass try for
two points fell In
complete, but the Hounds
still had a shocking 12-0
lead with 7:11 to go in the
third quarter.
After trading
possessions, the Panthers
took over on the Hounds'
40 after a short 8-yard
punt by Martin. Kendrick
shot for 5 to the 35,
followed by 4 more by
Ridley. On third and one,
Ridley slipped outside
and rambled 28 yards to
the Jones 3. Ridley scored
an apparent TD on the
next snap, but the Pan
thers were jolted by a 15-
yard holding penalty
pushing them back to the
18. Two rushing losses
drove the Panthers back
to the 26 and Perry was in
real trouble. But, on the
next snap the Cats were
out of it. Harvey boot
legged to pass, eluded
two tacklers and let loose
with a high arching pass
to the well-covered
Jimmy Linder. The
Perry tight end went up
for the ball with two
Hound defenders, but
Linder came down with it
and then raced the
remaining 10 yards to put
the Panthers on the
scoreboard. Perry's PAT
snap was mishandled and
the score remained 12-6
with 1:00 left in the third
period.
After Jones failed to
advance beyond their
own 45, the Panthers took
over on their own 33 after
a punt. Perry started
making noises again. On
a third and nine call
Ridley zipped to his left,
turned the corner and
rambled 42 yards to the
Hounds' 21 before being
derailed. After a run
netted nothing, Harvey
raced 12 yards on a
keeper to the 9 and two
snaps later Ridley was in
the endzone untouched
from nine yards out,
Boone tacked on the go
ahead extra point to put
the Panthers on top, 13-
12, with 7:38 left in the
game.
Perry got the pigskin
back three minutes later
when Henry Jackson fell
on Hound fumble at the
Jones 43, but the Pan
thers could not sustain a
time-killing drive so
Boone punted the Hounds
in a hole at the 5.
Two passes were batted
down and a run netted
only a yard so the Hounds

We've got to keep improving
