current state president of
the Georgia Association
of Industrial Arts Clubs
(GAIAC), and a senior at
Perry High.
Steven Lamar Peavy is
the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Lamar Peavy. He has a
sister, Cheryl, 16, and a
six year old brother
named Jason. The Peavy
family resides at 317
Floyd Street. Steve at
tends Second Memorial
Baptist Church.
The native Perryan has
experienced a very
unusual life during high
school. He played football
as a sophomore and in
jured a knee. Later he
broke an arm while
rushing to catch a
schoolbus, then while that
arm was in a cast broke
the other one while on
roller skates.
This week's Teen of the
Week was varsity tootbalt
manager last year. Ever
since the tenth grade he
has been heard an
nouncing junior high
football games, as well as
high school basketball
contests. The talkative
young man announced
high school baseball as a
sophomore and hopes to
repeat that job this
spring. Oh, yes, he also
announces at track
meets.
Steve has been a
member of the
Distributive Education
Clubs of America
(DECA) at Perry High
since last fall, and a
member of the Perry
High Industrial Arts Club
since fall of his
sophomore year. As a
junior he was local club
president and last spring
was elected state GAIAC
president at the state
convention.
As state president
Steve this summer toured
the state with the Georgia
Electrification Council
and Georgia Power,
making speeches and
touring business
facilities. His interest in
Industrial Arts he hopes
will earn him a GAIAC
college scholarship.
Steve carries a solid B
average at Perry High.
His favorite class? What
else but Industrial Arts
taught by Bill Louder
milk.
At school, at home or on
the job with his father
(who is a contractor),
Steve enjoys wood
working. At home he has
built a china cabinet and
chest of drawers. Other
hobbies include roller
skating, fishing, hunting,
water skiing, and
working on his 1970 VW.
The stocky young man
hopes to attend Georgia
Southern in Statesboro
this fall and major in
Industrial Arts. When he
graduates he wants to
either teach the subject in
junior high or high
school, or go into an area
of manufacturing that
needs his talents.
Steve Peavy is a down
to earth, sensible fellow
and realizes where his
talents can be found. His
"constructive" abilities
and attitudes bode well
for his future.
