Funny Street Sign
Notice anything unusual in this picture? The scene is on Macon
Street at the intersection with Carroll Street, close to the Post Office
and the Home Journal offices. The street is a two way passageway, but
the sign in the right corner reads: Left lane must yield. Only problem
is, there is no left lane. Some motorists headed into downtown
evidently think the sign refers to the traffic headed out of town and so
cut across the double yellow line, creating very hazardous navigation.
Either the sign needs removal, or else the stripes on the street need
alteration, or both.

‘Stratton ’ The Cat
These three Perry youngsters are engrossed in this lucky cat, known
as “ Stratton”. The feline and his brother “Briggs” were found about a
month ago in the former Magee Carpet building by former Chamber
exec Elwyn McKinney and present exec Ann Conner, while officials
from Briggs and Stratton Company were eyeing the building. Ann
promptly adopted both cats and dubbed them in honor of the company.
Left to right, the three youngsters are: Ray Bragg, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ray Bragg Jr.; Bryan Conner (holding cat), son of Mrs. Ann
Conner; and Andy Gentry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gentry. The
lucky cat is now two months old and is by himself, since “ Briggs ” has
fled the scene. The cat is spra'wling on and looking over some Perry
Area Chamber of Commerce membership decals.
