CRISIS
VLINE
We'd like to correct
some wrong ideas
(misconceptions) that
some people have about
the Community Crisis
Center. They say "I can't
go to the Crisis Center"
and give one or more of
the following reasons:
1. "I can't go to the
Crisis Center (HODAC)
because everyone in town
will find out".
A. That's definitely
false! All counseling is
strictly private and
confidential and federal
law protects you on this.
2. "I can't go...because
I'm not crazy or my
problem isn't a crisis
yet".
A. We are a Crisis
Center but we also would
like to do early in
tervention and preven
tion. You certainly don't
need a "crazy" label in
order to benefit from
counseling.
3. "I can't go...because
I don't have a drug
problem."
A. We do work with
drug abuse clients but we
also work with many
other problems.
4. "I can't go to the
Crisis Center. They only
work with teenagers."
A. That's not true
anymore. We have people
of all ages, income levels,
and races.
5. "I can't go because I
can't afford it".
A. No one is ever
refused services because
they cannot pay. We have
a discount schedule based
on income, dependents,
and family situation.
6. I can't go because I
don't live In Warner
Robins."
A. We serve three
counties: Houston,
Peach, and Crawford.
Right now we have a
counselor in Ft. Valley on
Tuesday and in Roberta
on Thursday.
7. "I can't go because I
thought that HODAC was

A. No, they are a dif
ferent group. Many
people don't realize that
the Houston Drug Action
council (HODAC) is a
community based
grassroots movement
with a local board of
directors. We are ac
tually private with
government contracts.
8. "I can't go to the
Crisis Center".
A. You can call our 24
hour telephone number
and talk with a counselor
or a trained volunteer.
Our main work involves
weekly therapy at the
Center.
So why not call the
Crisis Center? Now that
we've taken away your
