over five minutes to play
in the ballgame, and the
Warriors leading 24-14
certain doom looked the
Cubs square in the face.
On the kickoff following
the Warriors 24th point,
the ball was kicked
straight into the hands of
Ricky West on the front
line of the Cubs receiving
team. He caught the ball
in mid-air and raced 55
yards tor a TD. This
made the score 24-20 in
favor of the Warriors.
After the Cubs kick-off,
the Warriors ran off
about 3V2 minutes off the
clock before the Cubs
were able to get the ball
back. The situation at the
end was as follows: with
no time-outs remaining,
seven seconds on the
clock, and fourth down,
TB Scott Taylor threw to
QB Paul Carroll who
caught the ball between
two defenders and outran
two others to the goal line
for the winning margin.
The Cubs other two
scores were both made by
Scott Taylor on a 78 yard
interception and a 35 yard
run from scrimmage.
The only extra point tor
the Cubs came on a
Taylor to Mike Wright
pass.
The defense tor the
Cubs was very porous all
afternoon and gave up to
much yardage at a time.
Coach Dan Shelton said
"I was very disappointed
in our defense, because
we worked harder tor this
bunch than we have tor
anybody; and we did the
poorest job on them. I
hope everyone really gets
up tor the Northslde this
week. We have a great
deal riding on this game.
The county championship
and an undefeated season
are both at stake. I know
we have the kind of
character it takes to
win."
