Georgia Veterans
Service Director Pete
Wheeler said that under
the new plan, persons
entering the military
may elect to contribute
from SSO to $75 each
month toward an
educational fund. The VA
will contribute $2 for each
$1 contributed by the
individual for a
maximum period of 36
months. Under this "two
for-one" program, the
maximum amount
payable to a participant
for educational purposes
is SBIOO.
Once enrolled, the
individual is required to
participate in the
program for at least 12
consecutive months,
except in cases of severe
hardship or an early
discharge. All con
tributions from the In
dividual but not those
made by the VA will be
returned to a participant
who dis-enrolls from the
program early or who
receives a dishonorable
discharge.
The payment of
benefits under this new
program will be made
only for those periods of
time during which a
veteran is acutaily
enrolled in and pursuing
an approved program of
education.
As in the case with the
regular Gl Bill, no

Tips on Clothes Care
Before putting on
garments, allow enough
time for your deodorant
or anti-perspirant to dry,
because some deodorants
and anti-perspirants may
stain or damage fabrics.
Frequently a dingy un
derarm stain is left on the
veteran beyond the ten
years from the date of his
discharge from acfive
duty. Any unused con
tributions remaining in
the fund after the 10-year
period will be refunded
upon receipt of an ap
plication from the in
dividual, providing the

garment and is difficult
to remove.
Men's shirts should be
worn only once between
launderings. Body oils
and soils are the enemies
of collars and cuffs
causing threads to fray
and wear more easily.
Neckwear should be
knotted loosely. Tight
knots may cause ties to
lose shape quickly.
Before handling a scarf
or tie, rub your fingers on
a towel. The slightest
suggestion of body oil or
make-up will stain
delicate fabrics--
especially silks.
Apply perfume and
wash your hands before
tying a scarf. Perfume
may stain or damage the
scarf- particularly silk
scarves.
Spray new or freshly
cleaned ties with a soil
repellant. This protection
will keep the tie fresh and
unstained much longer.
Quick Sewing
For Fall
As you begin your fall
sewing, why not consider
making a quickie unlined
coat? The tashion picture
this fall shows layering
still as big news and an
unlined coat is ideal to
work with to achieve the
layered look.
To make the con
struction especially easy,
use some of the suede-1 ike
and leather-like fabrics to
trim the coat edges. Be
sure to choose those
which do not ravel. Use a
fusible web to hold the
suede trim together.
This makes an easily
constructed garmet for a
"first" with the suedes as
well as saving much
time.

DISAPPEARANCE OF
VETERAN MAY AF
FECT BENEFITS
The Georgia Depart
ment of Veterans Service
sometimes receives
inquiries pertaining to a
veteran's eligibility for
certain VA benefits in
cases where a veteran,
seemingly, "just
disappears."
Georgia Veterans
Service Director Pete
Wheeler says that when a
veteran has disappeared
for a period of 90 days, or
longer, and his
whereabouts remain
unknown to his family
and the Veterans Ad
ministration, VA
disability compensation
or pension which he was
receiving, or was entitled
to receive, may be paid to
his wife, children or
parents. The effective
date for payment is the
day following the date of
the last payment to the
veteran if a claim is filed
within one year of that
date. Otherwise,
payment will be effective
from the date a claim is
received by the VA.
Should a veteran's
whereabouts become
known to the VA after
payment to dependents
has begun, such payment
to dependents will be
discontinued, effective
the date of the last
payment,. and ap
propriate action will be
taken by the VA to adjust
the veteran's award in
accordance with any
new-found facts. In any
case where the facts may
bring into effect the
presumption of death of
the veteran, awards to
dependents will not be
continued for more than
