City attorney David

Mayor McKinley said
the contract in question

of council.
Mrs. Calhoun also
called council's attention

test might develop in
Georgia, The Home
Journal obtained a
simulated literacy test
from Florida developed
by the Dade County
schools and The Miami
Herald. We will be
printing this test in a
series over the next
several weeks for two
reasons.
The first reason is we
thought you might like a
good idea of what one
might look like. The
second is you might want
to give it to your child
(the student) to get an
idea of how well he or she
might come out on such a
test. You might even
want to take it yourself.
The test answers will
be published the
following week to each
section of questions.
Bear in mind that if you
give your child the test it
will not be under the
same professional and
scientific standards
which would be used in
the school system.
The Florida
Legislature has made it
mandatory for hopeful
graduates to pass the
examination. If they fail,
they would not receive a
diploma. Georgia
legislators are con
sidering the measure but
no firm standards or
requirements have been
set.
After you've taken the
exam or administered it
to your child, write us and
let us know your thoughts
on it.
