‘Meals On Wheels’
Is Coming To Perry
The Meals on Wheels
program of the Houston
County Council on Aging
Inc. an affiliated member
of the United Way, will
begin operation in Perry
in April.
The meals will be
served to persons home
Weed control in
soybeans
starts here.

themselves and can not
afford to have anyone to
care tor them.
The hot meals each
day, Monday thru Friday
consists of a meat,
starch, vegetable, salad.

dessert and milk. The
Houston County Council
on Aging will purchase
the meals from the
Perry-Houston County
Hospital nutrition
department. The hospital
was selected as the
supplier because of its
personnel's knowledge of
nutrition and sanitation.
The meals are quickly
and cheerfully delivered
by volunteer drivers who
observe if any other
available services are
needed and report it.
The participants are
referred to the "Meals on
Wheels" committee by
many agencies or by a
friend.

Is Honored
The members of
Beaver Creek Baptist
Church honored their
oldest member, T.D.
Mason, Sr., with a supper
party Saturday evening,
April 8, his 89th birthday.
This enjoyable affair was
held at the home of Mrs.
G.T. Pierce Sr. on
Houston Lake Road.
On Sunday, Mr. Mason
was the honoree of a
Perry U.D.C. Chapter
Elects New Officers
Officers for the 1978-79
U.D.C. year, beginning in
September were elected
at the monthly meeting of
the Sgt. Clinton C.
Duncan Chapter, held
Wednesday, April 1, at
Elko. Hostesses were
Mrs. Charles Kezar, Mrs.
by United Way and
supplemented by con
tributions from
organizations and private
persons. All the monies
received and are used for
food as supervision and
helpers are volunteers.

the Meals on Wheels
program or to obtain
information on becoming
a recipient of its services
in Perry, please contact
Mrs. Paul Hardy 987-1664.

Ga. was co-hostess of this
family gathering. The
sons of Mr. and Mrs.

Mason and their families,
were included in the
guest list.

Those chosen as
leaders include Mrs.
Harvey Nesmith,
president; Mrs. Ben
Newberry, vice
president; Mrs. Tom
Cater, 2nd vice
president; Mrs. Lewis B.
Smyth, 3rd vice

Katherine Ryals,
secretary; Mrs. W.D.
Snyder, treasurer; Mrs.
A.L. Downs, historian;
Mrs. Jerry Langston,
registrar; Mrs. Robert
Bailey, recorder of
crosses; Mrs. Norine
Jones, chaplain.
The nominating
committee was composed
of Mrs. W.B. Evans, Mrs.
C.E. Sasser, and Mrs.
F.M. Green.
Mrs. Frank Pate,
president, presided over
the meeting. Mrs. Norine
Jones gave a devotional
on the "Miracle of
Spring". Mrs. Hollis
Kezar led the pledge to
the U.S. and Ga. flags and
salute to the confederate
flag.
Memorial Day plans
were announced by Mrs.
Downs. The program will
be held Wednesday, April
26, at 10:30 a.m. at
Westfield School. The
speaker will be Charles
Adams, attorney of Fort
Valley. The annual
luncheon of the U.D.C.
will be held at 12:30 p.m.,
April 26 at the New Perry
Hotel.
The guest speaker at
the April meeting was
Mrs. L.C. Renfroe, of
Fitzgerald, past
president of the Georgia
Division U.D.C. She was
introduced by Mrs.
Downs, program
chairman. Mrs. Ren
froe's subject was
General J.E.B. Stuart, a
graduate of West Point
military Academy in
1854, who joined his
native state of Virginia in
1861 in the fight for
constitutional freedom
assigned to the Con
federate Cavalry, Gen.
Stuart rendered valuable
service and was made
major-general in July
1862. In 1864, he made a
fight which saved Rich
mond but was mortally
wounded and died on May
12 that year.

Johnson Receives Award

Richard Johnson of Perry (R) was recently recognized for over 20
years of service to the dairy industry in the Southeast.
Johnson, a dairy farmer from Perry, Georgia, was presented a cer
tificate of appreciation for his work and leadership in behalf of the growth
and development of programs in support of milk promotion, education
and research. The certificate was presented by Harold Glass, President,
at the 7th Annual Meeting of the Southeast United Dairy Industry
Association, in Atlanta, Georgia.
SUDIA is the dairy farmers’ promotion organization that coordinates
the programs of American Dairy Association and Dairy and Food
Nutrition Council in the Southeast.
