Perry Patrol Post Will Be “Cracking Down ” On Speeders
Labor Day Weekend; 19 Deaths Predicted
The Georgia State
Patrol is optimistic that
positive results of its
recent statewide speed
crackdown will be seen in
the upcoming Labor Day
Holiday period, ac
cording to State Public
Safety Commissioner
Colonel Herman Gofer.
"Next weekend, Labor
Day, should be a good
yardstick to measure the
results of our con
centrated efforts of the
past few weeks," he said.
"We plan to deploy as
much manpower as
possible during the
holiday with the same
firmness and resolve we
have demonstrated in the
past month."
Nevertheless, the State
Patrol predicts that 19
persons may die on the
state's roads during the
78 hour holiday period
which begins at 6:00 p.m.
Friday, September 1 and
ends at midnight Mon
day, September 4. The
prediction, which is
based on past experience,
also calls for a possible
499 injuries and 1279
accidents.

Many people, when
they hear the term
mental health think first
of mental illness. But
mental health is far more
than merely the absence
of mental illness.
Mental health is
something all of us want
for ourselves, whether we
know it by name or not.
When we speak of hap

or enjoyment, or
satisfaction, we are
usually talking about

Colonel Gofer said that
Mental health has to do
with everybody's
everyday life. It means
the over all way that
people get along-in their
families, at school, on the
job, at play, with their
associates, in their
communities. It has to do
with the way that each
person harmonizes his
desires, ambition,
abilities, ideals, feelings

order to meet the

Houston Farmers
Told Os Set-Aside
Washington, August 15 -
Secretary of Agriculture
Bob Bergland toady
announced a 20 percent
set-aside program for she
1979 wheat crop, identical
to this year's highly
successful program.
By complying with the
announced set-aside,
wheat farmers will be
eligible for a wheat loan
of $2.35 a bushel, and a
target price of $3.40 per
bushel, also the same as
the 1978 program.
Secretary Bergland
called the 1979 program a
"stabilizing measure
designed to benefit both
producers and con
sumers.''
"If farmers use the 1979
program as well as they
did this year, we believe
that farm wheat prices
will be maintained," the
Secretary said.
"This program is also
anti-inflationary. These
provisions will not add to
food price inflation".
Secretary Bergland
said.
USDA studies show
that not set-aside in 1979
would result in U.S.
wheat stocks being well
above needs, con
siderably lower farm
prices, higher govern
ment payments, and a
decrease in export
earnings from wheat,
Bergland added.
"Good participation in
the 20 percent set-aside
should result in wheat
stocks on June 1, 1980
near 7.5 percent of the
projected world wheat
use or approximately
1.135 billion bushels," he
said.
The 20 percent set
aside means that for
every 100 acres of wheat
planted wheat for six
months of the year,
however a graze-out and
haying program has not
been included in she
program.
The national program
acreage of 57.1 million
acres is the number of
acres of wheat needed to
be planted in order to
produce enough for ex
pected domestic and
export needs and carry
over.
The Secretary an
nounced a voluntary
reduction of 15 percent
for 1979 wheat. Program
participants who reduce
their 1979 planted
acreage by at least 15
percent from their 1978
acreage will be eligible
for target-price coverage
on 100 percent of their
troopers.
During the Labor Day
Holiday period, troopers
will get help from the

Division with spot checks
and enforcement from

One way of describing
mental health is to
describe mentally
healthy people. Just
knowing what mental
health is doesn't mean
you can go out and be
mentally healthy, but
knowing can help you to
think straight about it.
These are some of the
characteristics of people
with good mental health.
1. They feel com
fortable about them
selves.
a. They are not bowled
over by their own
1979 planted wheat
acreage. The program
will give credit to far
mers who reduce their
acreage in 1978 so that
their base for 1979
reduction will be the
same as it was in 1978.
