Recipes For Fall
I was looking through a little
recipe booklet published by the
Rumble Junior High Teacher’s of
Warner Robins about four years
ago. Jean Gossett gave me this
little booklet and I enjoyed looking
at it again. Jean lived on Lake Joy
Road but has since moved, and I
really miss seeing her. She gave
me many of her favorite recipes
and they were always so good. I
found her recipe for Chow Chow in
this little book (which says, NO
COOKING) so I decided we should
have it in the Nook.
Next a Breakfast Casserole for
Sunday Morning Breakfast, or for a
change for your family any time!
Last of all an easy Blueberry
Muffin recipe ... this is for those
blueberry lovers who have
requested this type recipe.
And on we go .... into the early
fall days.
CHOW CHOW
1 large or 2 small heads of cabbage
12 large onions
8 large carrots
8 green or red sweet peppers
a A cup salt
2 pints vinegar
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon white mustard seed
Grind cabbage, onions, carrots,
and peppers. Add salt and let stand
for 2 hours. Put in a colander and
drain. (If a bit salty, wash in clear
water and drain well). Combine the
vinegar and sugar mixture, stir
and put into sterilized jars and

BREAKFAST CASSEROLE
Va cup onion, chopped
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons flour
IVz cups milk
1 cup sharp cheese, shredded
6 hard-cooked eggs, sliced
IV2 cups potato chips, crushed
10 or 12 slices of bacon, crumbled
Fry bacon until crisp; drain and
set aside. Saute onion in butter;
blend in flour and milk. Stir until
thick; add cheese. Place eggs in a
10 x 16 x IVfc-inch baking dish.
Cover with half of the cheese sauce,
potato chips, and crumbled bacon.
Repeat layers and bake at 350
degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
BLUEBERRY MUFFINS
l/3 cup shortening
% cup sugar
1 egg
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
Va teaspoon salt
3 /a cup milk
1 cup blueberries
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add well - beaten egg.
Combine flour, baking powder, and
salt; add alternately with milk.
Gently fold in blueberries. Bake at
350 degrees for 25 minutes in well
greased muffin tins. Makes 12
large muffins.

to speak at the dedication of the Austin Lee
Manufacturing Co. ... The new Perry High
School cheerleaders for 1963 are: Sharon
Benton, Molly Richardson, Carol Maddox,
Brenda Roper, Judy Gray, Miriam Wheelus,
Linda Satterfield, Martha Suber, Cheryl
Crutchfield and Shirley Matthews ... Perry
white schools to enroll 1,921 and colored
schools 1,316 ... Mr. and Mrs. Lucius Penick
Huff of Kathleen celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary August 18th ... Chester
Rufus Lasseter, 69, died Saturday Aug. 24 at
his Perry residence ...

John of the Perry High Panthers sang the
blues to the Kiwanis Club Tuesday. Os the
first game of the season Friday night he said
“We hope we can just stay alive.” They will
play the triple A Willingham of Macon ...
Houston County voters Tuesday over
whelmingly approved a county com
missioner form of government ... The state
highway department and Pulaski and
Houston Counties are going ahead with plans
for a new highway between Warner Robins
and Hawkinsville. ... Riley Hunt is new
reporter of the Perry FFA Chapter. He has
outstanding record in Future Farmer work

Cox, will be singing solos
and leading the
congregation and choir in
singing. He is a bright,
new voice in music
evangelism, having
entered the field in the
Summer of 1977. Since
then he has lead in
revivals and crusades in
10 states. Rev. Cox is a
graduate of Georgia
College at Milledgeville.
He is married to the
former Janice Juanita
Wright of Milledgeville.
Mrs. Charles Whitson
will be playing the piano
as a part of the revival
team. She and Rev.
Whitson have two
daughters, both married.
Rev. Don Robert,
pastor of Tharpe
Memorial Baptist Church
says that revival is
already moving in the
church.
Morning services will
be at 10:30 a.m. and
evening services will be
at 7:30 p.m. A nursery
will be provided Pastor
and people extend a
friendly invitation to all.

announce the birth of
their daughter Cathy
Leigh, born August 18,
1978 at the Baldwin City
Hospital in Milledgeville.
Grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. Marvin Bowers
of North Wilkesboro, NC
and Mr. and Mrs. Ira
Maddox of Perry and
Toledo Ohio. The great
grandmother is Mrs. C.R.
Sanders of Soperton.

Club Saturday August 5
by Mrs. William Sexton,
Mrs. Earl Lewis and Mrs.
Stewart Richardson.

seating twelve guests
were decorated with
yellow cloths and napkins
and centered with lovely
summer flowers.
