Perry Lions Treated To
“Exceptional” Meeting
The Perry Lions Club
members were treated to
an exceptional regular
meeting on Nov. 6. It was
exceptional because of
the turn-out, business
conducted, and reports
given.
Lion President, Curtis
Fountain, called the
meeting to order and
immediately introduced
five guests. Four of the
five introduced will be
new members upon in
duction on Nov. 20. These
men are Greg Brooks,
Robert Wilson, Bill
Edwards and Barney
Johnson, all of Perry. The
other visitor was Lion
Fred Hess of Bradenton,
Florida. Lion Hess paid
the club a visit while
stopping over in Perry.
He is a member of a very
active club of 57 Lions. He
shared his club's ac
tivities with the members
and gave several
suggestiosn concerning
projects.
After a fine dinner and
group fellowship the club
business was entered
into. The most interesting
and rewarding report
was given by Lion Carl
Barrett, the Eyesight
Conservation Chairman.

Lion Barrett leads the
charge of Lions in helping
local men, women, boys
and girls in obtaining
needed eye care. The
Perry Lions have been
most active this year in
assisting those in need of
eye glasses and eye care.
Os course, all this is made
possible by the public’s
support of the Lions
program.
Not only did the Lions
hear of local Lions’ eye
care, but also heard
about the state’s effort.
Since Jan. 1, 1979, there
have been 687 eye
donations and 356 cornea
transplants. During the
month of September
alone there were 49
cornea transplants. -- the
highest figure for any
state.
The donation of your
eyes upon your death is a
valuable gift and it costs
you nothing. More than a
thousand Georgians know
first hand what being
given the gift of sight
means. They were blind,
but because someone was
a sight giver and because
of the Georgia Lions Eye
Bank, they can see again.
The Lions Clubs of
Georgia, through the
freshman at Valdosta State College, was
recently selected from a group of six con
testants as sweetheart of Sigma Phi Epsilon
Fraternity Pledge Class. She is the daughter
of Mrs. Joe Roper and the late Mr. Roper ...
Mildred Evans Warren, author of Southern
Cooking, is pictured showing some of the
Doubleday editions of her book just received
in Perry. The Perry author’s book is slated to
go on sale all over the United States within
the next few weeks ...

Foundation, sponsor two
eye banks, one affiliated
with the Emory
University School of
Medicine and the other
with the Medical College
of Georgia in Augusta.
The eye banks supply
donor tissue to eye
surgeons for use in
restoring sight through
corneal transplants. The
donor eye tissue is ob
tained from deceased
persons who, while living,
have agreed to donate
their eyes to the eye bank
upon death.
Eyesight conservation
is the number one project
of the Perry Lions Club.
They solicit the support of
the citizens of the Perry
area. If you would like to
become an eye donor,
please contact the Perry
Club. Also, the Lions of
Perry appreciate your
continued support by
buying their brooms,
mops, light bulbs and
other project items. The
profit made is used 100
percent for the benefit of
people in need.
Upon the completion of
other reports, the
president adjourned the
meeting.
