Thanksgiving Holidays
From A Turkey’s View
By
Debbie Mcllrath
Once upon a time, way
before you were born,
Some pilgrims fled
England 'cause they
would not conform. Their
ships reached a new land,
no longer to flee, How
happy they were, but how
hard it would be, For
there were no super
markets, or contractors
to make, Their four
bedroom, three bath
homes, for Pete’s sake!
They had no flush toilets
or hot water tanks, But
they held on to life, and
for that they gave thanks.
Day after day, they
struggled and strived, To
get enough food that
would keep them alive.
Night after night, they
cried in their beds, The
winter upon them and so
many dead. Yes starting
a country from scratch is

the pits, I was glad to be a
turkey back then, I’ll
admit. They didn’t have
feathers and all of this
fat, To keep them from
freezing, you can be sure
of that!
But somehow they
managed, I was so sur
prised! A colony sprung
up before my very eyes!
That spring they made
friends with the Indians
here, Who taught them to
plant and hunt the wild
deer. Back then, we
turkeys couldn’t be
caught sleepin’, ‘Cause
somehow those pilgrims
learned we were good
eatin’!
One day during harvest
they all got together,
Thanking someone for
getting them through the
cold weather. Just who is
this God that’s receiving
their praise? The Indians
never mentioned Him in
all of my days. I thought
they were nuttso ‘till I
looked up and saw, A
bunch of men robed in
white looking down on
them all. Surely, I
thought, they had noticed
them up there, But the
pilgrims just went on
thanking “God” in a
prayer.
I fell a light tap on my
shoulder and turned, To
one of those beings, an
angel, I learned. “Look
here, Mr. Turkey, now
don’t be afraid, The God
they are praising is the
person who made, The
trees and the flowers, the
oceans so blue, And yes,
Mr. Turkey, he even
made you!” Surprised as
I was, I tried not to shake,
But my knees just kept
knocking as if they would
break! The angel went on
saying, “Where’s the rest
of your bunch?” I an
swered, “The pilgrims
are having them for
lunch!” He laughed and
motioned for me to sit
down, I did and his smile
slowly turned to a frown.
“Be thankful that of all
the turkeys you were
thinner, Or you’d ALSO
be on the pilgrim’s menu
for dinner! Now let me
explain who God is and
why, These pilgrims give
Him praise and on Him
rely! You see, man can
plant a seed, water and
tend it, But the sunshine
and rain, only God can
send it! That’s why the
pilgrims thank God up
above, Because of this
harvest, they know of His
love. You see, we were
sent to keep them from
harm, And God gave
Potpourri—
them courage and
strength to go on. So
that’s why they’re
making a Thanksgiving
Day, And that’s why, ‘To
God Be The Glory!’ they

Room mothers are of
great assistance during
the annual Tucker Field
Day in the spring. They
serve as scorekeepers,
ribbon givers, concession
sellers, teacher helpers
and cheering mothers.
Room mothers will be of
invaluable assistance to
the teacher as each room
prepares and presents a
chapel program during
the school year.
