Tucker Observes Ani-Ed Week

Elementary School during the recently observed American Education

Enjoying Feast
What better way to end a unit on Pilgrims than to re-enact the “First
Thanksgiving’’. These fourth graders from Mrs. Soles’ class at Tucker
Elementary School had a real feast.

Helping Crippled Children
These members of the Pilot Club of Perry delivered the $3000.00 Walk-
A-Thon funds to Georgia Scottish-Rite Hospital for Crippled Children in
Atlanta last week. Shown handing the funds to a patient at the Hospital
are Mrs. Macy Skinner, Chairman of the Walk-A-Thon, Mrs. Faye
Tharpe, Mrs. Betty Ragan and Mrs. Norma Wilson, president of Perry
Pilot Club.

Thursday, November 20, 1969 - At a recent
meeting of the Federal Land Bank
Association of Montezuma, J.M. Tolleson Jr.
of Perry was elected to the Board of Direc
tors ... The Vesely Company, makers of
world-famous Apache camping trailers,
announced here Tuesday, their plans to open
a Southeastern distribution center and
warehouse in Perry ... Miss Georgette
Austin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin
Austin of Perry has been assigned as
assistant producer of an NBC-TV
documentary called “Dream on Monkey
Mountain”, It is being produced in Trinidad
and will be televised in Feb. 1970 ... The 1969
Perry High School Basketball Cheerleaders
are: Lee Warren, Judy St. John, Lane
Whipple, India Smith, Pam Perkins, Marsha
Green, Nan Tolleson, Madelyn Stocks, Missie
Maggard, Fran Berry, Patti Dayton and
Sheila Griffen ...

Thursday, November 26,1959 -- About 1,000
Perryans will go to the polls next Tuesday,
December 1, to choose a mayor and three
councilmen. Mayor Stanley Smith Jr. is
opposed for re-election by Milton Beckham.
Three incumbent councilmen are asking for
reelection. They are Alton Hardy, W.C. (Bill)
Bates, and D.K. (Dot) Roughton ... B.W.
Druckenmiller, president of Penn-Dixie
Cement Corporation, announced over the
weekend plans for a major expansion of the
company’s Clinchfield plant, virtually
doubting its capacity ... Robert J. McNeil has
been elected the new president of the Perry
Kiwanis Club, succeeding William Sexton ...
Mr. and Mrs. Chesley Cawthon announce the
birth of a daughter, Kathy, born Nov. 20, at
the Macon Hospital ... Featured during

Thursday. November 24, 1949 -- United
States Vice President Alben Barkley and
Mrs. Barkley, the nation’s favorite love-birds
of the moment, passed through Perry about
12:30 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Yates Green urged
the couple to have lunch at the New Perry
Hotel but the “Veep” and his new bride were
anxious to reach their destination Sea
Island. People who saw the honeymooners
said the vice-president appears to be about 60
(he is actually 72) and Mrs. Barkley much
younger than her actual 38 years ... Perry
friends are urging Judge A.M. (Phil) An
derson of Perry to make the race next year
for the U.S. Congress seat of Rep. Steve
Pace, who says he will retire after he com
pletes his term on Dec. 31,1951. Mr. Pace has
represented the Third District for 14 years ...
Athlete of the week this week is Bobby Sat
terfield a senior who is well known by op
ponents for his skill as a guard on the
basketball team. Bobby was one of two
delegates to Boy’s State last summer ... Now
showing at the Roxy Theatre is “Rebecca”
starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine
... Residential construction is on the boom
again in Perry, a survey showed this week.
Tolleson Lumber Company has constructed
12 new houses and has laid out four more in
the Brookwood subdivision of the city. Most
of these houses have already been sold ...
