Make Plans For Retirement Now
People planning to
retire at the end of the
year should be making
serious plans for the
event right now, Joel A.
Kaartunen social
security branch manager
in Warner Robins, said
recently.
One of the things they
should do is apply for
their social security
retirement benefits. A
person who applies for
retirement checks 2 or 3
months before his or her
retirement date can be
sure that checks will
begin when earnings
from work stop, Mr.
Kaartunen said.
Before applying, a
person should get certain
information and evidence
together. This will help
speed the application
process. Here is what is
needed;

A person can apply

Q. 1 recently applied for
a part-time job after
school. The employer told
me I need a social
security card. How do I
get one?
A. You can apply for a
social security card at
any social security office.
If you’re 18 or older, you
must apply in person.
You will need evidence of
age, identity, and U.S.
citizenship or lawful
admission status. For
more information,
contact a local social
security office.
Q. My husband has
been unable to work for
the past 4 months
because of a severe
illness. I think he should
apply for social security
disability payments, but
he doesn't think he would
be considered disabled.
What does social security
consider a disability?
A. You are considered
"disabled” under social
security if you have a
physical or mental im
pairment which prevents
you from doing any
substantial gainful work
and is expected to last for
at least 12 months or to
result in death.
Vocational factors such
as age, education, and
work experience may be
considered in deter
mining whether a person

Q. My husband died
last month. We didn’t
have any children, but I
have a 10-year old son
from my first marriage.
Can he get survivors
benefits on his step
father’s social security
record?

eligible for monthly
survivors checks if he or
she was the stepchild of

Trustworthy Friend
A certain lady tells of
chatting away with
another, each confiding
in the other, things they
felt a need to say to
someone who could be
trusted to keep a con
fidence.
Realizing the ability of
"bridle the tongue” as
being the best policy, one
is said t o have expressed
her trust in the other by
stating the scriptural
advice, while confessing
a weakness to practice
the teaching.
“I guess you are just
the kind of person that
makes me want to talk
about everything,” the
speaker is quoted to have
said.
According to the ac
count, her friend
laughingly replied,
"Well, I hope that is
meant to be a com
pliment!” The con

Q. I’ve hired a man to
do some painting and
repair work around my
home this fall. Is he
considered a household
employee for social
security purposes?
A. Yes, provided he is
not engaged in a trade or
business. Household
employees include people
who do repair work or
house cleaning, gar
deners, babysitters,
assurance that they each
considered it a privilege
to have trustworthy
friends.
There may be times we
feel there is no one we can
trust to keep a con
fidence.
To be a trustworthy
friend should be con
sidered an honor by those
who have earned the
recognition.
We might not always
have an earthly friend
available who is the kind
of person that makes us
want to talk about
everything, but we are
never without The One
who never turns a deaf
ear and never betrays a
confidence.
We need only to "come

grace to help in time of

Q. I am considering
going to a podiatrist to
have some warts
removed. Will my
Medicare medical in
surance pay for this?
A. Medical insurance
can help pay for any
covered services of a
licensed podiatrist, ex
cept for routine foot care.
Routine foot care in
cludes removal of warts
(including plantar
warts), corns, and
calluses, hygienic care;
and treatment for flat
feet or other structural
misalignments of the
feet. But, medical in
surance can help pay for
routine foot care if you
have a medical condition
affecting the lower limbs
(such as severe diabetes)
which requires that such
care be performed by a
podiatrist or doctor of
medicine or osteopathy.

pay for he blood?
A, Medicare medical
insurance helps pay for
blood you receive as an
outpatient or as part of
other covered services,
beginning with the fourth
pint in a calendar year.
Medical insurance does
not pay for the first 3
pints of blood in each
calendar year. You do not
have to pay for the first 3
pints if they are replaced
through a blood plan or
you have someone donate
blood for you. A hospital
or other facility cannot
charge you when you
have arranged for
replacement of the first 3
Dints.
