various selections of Yule

the Christmas spirit.
June Floyd and Melinda

Real Daughter
As the daughter of the
late Charles Weslej
Mathews, the last sur
viving Confederate
veteran in Houston
County, and his wife,
Mary Frances McCoy
Mathews, Mrs. Bennett is
a real daughter of the
Confederacy. A native of
Houston County, this
century-old lady was
reared near Centerville.
She came to Perry to live
in November 1899 after
her marriage to William
Franklin Bennett, who
died many years ago.
When she lived in
Perry, Mrs, Bennett was
active in the P.T.A.,
U.D.C., and Woman’s
Missionary Society of the
Methodist Church. Her
Perry home was located
at 900 Washington
Avenue. Although Mrs.
Bennett has lived in
Macon for years, she has
returned many times for
visits, especially when
her step daughter, Mrs.
Mary Bennett Gurr, was
living.
Her only son, William
Mathews Bennett, of
Daytona Beach, Florida
