VFW Medal Winner

presented Cadet Lt. Cassandra Solomon with the VFW Medal. He also

the GA 66th AFJROTC
Squadron has earned the
distinction of being the
“Best Military Flight” of
the Fall School Quarter.

To be selected as the
most outstanding flight,
all items of education and
training in AFJROTC are
taken into consideration.
The cadets are awarded
point value from 0 to 100
each, and the Flight with
the highest point
average is declared the
winner. Each week these
points are registered on a
chart so that the cadets
can examine their
standing. During the Fall
quarter, “B" Flight
leaped ahead with a high
academic score in the
first weekly quiz. They
received strong com
petition from three other
Flights, however the
other flights were not
quite able to catch up in
the end.

Perry Methodist Women
Mark 100th Anniversary
In observance of the
100th anniversary of the
women's organization of
the Perry United
Methodist Church, a skit
was presented at the
Christmas meeting, held
Monday, December 10, in
the church sanctuary at
3:45 p.m. and also at 7:30
p.m.
The skit titled,
"Celestial Visitors Recall
1879 Events", featured
four charter members of
the first organization,
called Woman’s
Missionary Society, and
the Perry pastor, Dr.
John B. McGehee, who
directed the proceedings
on December 15, 1879.
Representing Dr.
McGehee was the present
pastor, Rev. Thomas H.
Johnson. Portraying the
first members were Mrs.
Earl Marshall as Mrs.
Amanda Riley Harris,
president: Mrs. Woodrow
Gilbert as Mrs. Minerva
Houser Hook, treasurer;
Mrs. Ed Weaver as Miss
Kitty Cater, secretary;
Mrs. Bill Potts as Mrs.
Ida Cater Rogers,
member, at the night
presentation, Mrs.
Walter Gray, Jr. por
trayed Mrs. Hook.
The characters were
introduced by Mrs. W.E.
Marshall, director of the
skit, which was written
by Mrs. Ruby C. Hodges,
church historian.
Preceding the skit,
Mrs. Martin Beeland
sang, “Ring The Bells”,
with Mrs. Joe McNutt as
pianist. The congregation
sang "Amazing Grace”,
an old-time favorite.
Monday’s meeting of
United Methodist
Women was opened with
a Christmas devotional
by the president, Mrs.
Dan Britton, who an
nounced the Americus
District Tea to be given in
the Fellowship Hall of
Perry Church on
Saturday, December 15,
from 3-5 p.m. in ob
servance of the 100th
anniversary of the South
Georgia Conference
Women’s organization.
All United Methodist
Women are invited.
Special Memberships

were given by individuals
and by groups of the
United Methodist
Women. The adult

Chapman, secretary of
Specials, with ap
propriate remarks. She
was assisted by Miss
Pearle Edwards who
gave each one acer-
tificate from the
Women’s Division. The
adults were given bud
vases of white car
nations, greenery, and
holly, and the babies,
wristlets of pink ribbon.
Love Offering
At the conclusion of this
part of the program, Mrs.
Britton offered a prayer
of thanksgiving and
asked the women to place
a love offering on the
altar for the Open Door
Community House,
Columbus, Ga.; the
Wesley Community
Centers in Savannah, and
the Vashti Educational
Center in Thomasville,
Ga. The offering
amounted to $175.00.
Christmas Social
Following the program
in the Sanctuary, a social
was held in the
Fellowship Hall. The tea
table, overlaid with a
green cloth, held an
epergne of red car
nations, greenery, and
lighted red tapers.
Platters of artistic and
delicious food were
placed on the table.
Wassail was served from
a crystal bowl. Mrs. H.A,
Aultman arranged the
tea table.
Group number Two
with Mrs. Jackie Cooper
as chairman furnished
the other decoration. A
large Christmas tree
decorated with white
Chrismon symbols was
placed in front of the
stage. Pots of red poin
settias and a large
wreath formed the
decorations across the
room from the tea table
and served as a
background for the semi
circle of chairs used for
seating the U.M.W.
members and their
guests. Lighted red
candles were placed in
each window.

historic affair were Mrs.
Harold Clay and Mrs.
George F. Nunn Jr. co
chairpersons; Mrs. Steve
Adams, Mrs. E.H. Clay,
Mrs A.H. Cotton, Miss
