shared their rock collections with Tucker
Elementary School fifth graders during their
study of the earth. On display were many
examples of minerals, igneous rocks,
sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks.

This Christmas season the students of Tucker
Elementary School enjoyed a lobby display
featuring an old fashioned red mantle, a roaring
fire, a cozy rug. a comfortable rocking chair,
huge stockings to fill, and Mr. and Mrs. Santa
Claus. The display was the creation of Gail Soles
and Betty Dawkins. Tucker students pictured
are: L to R, Antonio Clark, Mark Holloway,
Richard Willard, Karl Everidge, Trent Malone,
Bryan Conner, and Lisa Thigpen.

‘Symbol Os Excellence ’
The Bibb Company of
Ft. Valley was presented
the Sears “Symbol of
Excellence" Award on
Dec. 19. This award was
given in special
recognition to the em
ployees throughout the
company, but in par
ticular to those people at
the Fort Valley Bed
spread Plants for the
excellence of mer
chandise supplied to
Sears during 1979. Bibb
Company officials
estimate that 75 of their
employees live in the
Perry area.

presented the Award to
E.M. Logan, Fort Valley
Plant Manager and John
Little, Bonding Range
Fixer - Foreman who is
also the Bibb “Employee
of the Year”. Little ac
cepted the award on
behalf of all the em
ployees at Fort Valley.
In his presentation,
Hildebrand stated, “This
award is our salute to
those suppliers who
have, through their ex
cellence, made
significant contributions
to Sears’ reputation for
quality merchandise. It
also recognizes each
employee for her and his
contribution to the
superior performance of
the plant in such matters
as shipping goods on
schedule, and initiative in
developing new and
improved merchandise.”
The Bibb Company was
selected for the award by
a committee represen
ting retail stores, catalog
plants, national service
department, quality
control personnel and
Sears Laboratories. The
committee screened
nominations from their 50
national buying depart
ments. Currently, of the
total sum of ap
proximately 12,000
sources of merchandising
suppliers, only 2 percent

Staff Sgt. Curtis Bass,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie
Bass Jr., Route 1, Perry,
recently completed tank
gunnery training with the
Ist Armored Division in
Germany.
The firing, which took
place both day and night,
consisted of several tests.
The men fired at
stationary and moving
targets.
To qualify in the final
phase the tankers had to
engage and destroy three
simulated enemy tanks in
27 seconds,
