Fouls Kill Panthers
Pantherettes Stew The Irish
After last Friday
night’s basketball action
in Dublin was over, the
Perry Panthers and
Pantherettes had some
good news, and some bad
news.
The good news came
from Coach James
Kinchen and his Pan
therettes. They knocked
off the Dublin Lady Irish
58-46 to stay unbeaten in
the subregion (2-0) and
hiked their season mark
to 8-2 overall.
The bad news came in
the boys game when the
high ranked Dublin Irish

Coach Dicky Erwin’s
Perry eighth grade
Pantherettes dropped
their first game of the
season, a thrilling 28-27
contest with Rumble, but
since then have racked up
two straight wins.
Just before the
Christmas break the
Pantherettes whipped
Warner Robins 27-24 and
crushed Tabor 50-20.
In the season-opening
loss to Rumble the Perry
girls never really put it
all together. “Rumble is
the best team in Warner
Robins and if we could
have got our act together
we’d be 3-0 instead of 2-
1,” Coach Erwin com
mented.
For the opener the
Pantherettes hit on 12 of
39 from the floor and
were 3 of 9 from the gratis
stripe. Pam Walker (8)
and Tammy Holmes (7)
paced the Perry
rebounding corps.

With Dublin trying to
play the role of spoiler,
trailing the pressing

dreams vanished in the
second quarter as Vicki
Woodard and company

gain a 33-19 lead at
halftime for the Perry

That was Perry’s
problem defined in two

Panthers fell to the third

There won’t be any ropes

That wasn't all of it.
Teammates Carlton

were each tagged with
three fouls in the first
half. Perry’s upset plans
were, without a doubt,
sidetracked.
“Our foul trouble
altered what we tried to
do,” Coach Melvin Sweat
said about the contest,
‘‘we had to throw our
game plan out the door.”
Even with Boone in foul
trouble, the Panthers
stayed close to the Irish

17-14. But in the second
stanza Dublin’s potent
board strength began to
pay off. By halftime the
Irish were on top 35-25
and priorities were in
their favor.
