Boxwood “Bromlng”
During the winter
months boxwood
throughout the state often
develops a bronze-green
leaf color. Several factors
are associated with this
discoloration. If box
woods are located so that
they receive a great deal
of direct sunlight during
the winter months, they
are more likely to
develop a bronze foliage
color. In fact, the south
side of these plants
usually have more foliage
discoloration than do the
north side which is more
shaded from direct
sunlight. If the plants
have a poor root system
due to poor soil drainage,
improper planting or to
nematode infestations,
they are more likely to
develop a bronze leaf
color. Plants which have
not been fertilized during
the previous growing
season and are thus low
in nitrogen content also
more than likely to have a
bronze leaf color. For
tunately, most affected
plants will produce
normal green leaves
again in the spring.

Os Azaleas
Back in November and
December, the lower
leaves of many azaleas in
Georgia turned red to
yellow in color and then
dropped. Homeowners
should not be unduly
alarmed over this
situation. The condition
will not affect spring

nothing that can be done
now to prevent additional
loss of leaves. It is
possible to reduce winter
leaf drop on azaleas next
winter, however. Ac
cording to the research
conducted by the Hor
ticulture Department of
the University of
Georgia, the condition is
related to a low nitrogen
level in the soil during the
fall months. An ap
plication of a fertilizer
containing nitrogen

of Georgia and around
October 15th in south
Georgia will do an ef
fective job of keeping the
leaves green during the
winter months. The same
fertilizer that has been
used on the azaleas in the
spring and summer can
be applied in the fall.
Apply light as is always
suggested for azaleas.
This treatment may not
be effective if the azalea
plants have a poorly
functioning root system
and thus cannot ef
fectively take up the
fertilizer.

This is much too cold
since most houseplants

higher. On very cold
nights move plants or pull
down shades or place
sheets of paper between
the plants and the win
dow. This will help keep
the plants growing good
during the winter.

What Kind Os
Buyer Are You?
How we feel about
money affects our
relationships with family,
friends and associates.
Spending, saving,
borrowing, lending,
charging, all reflect our
attitudes about money.
Can you identify
yourself with any of the
buyers discussed here? If
so, it will help you to
better understand why
you buy and your
feelings about money.
Bargain Buyers -- Is
getting a bargain more
important to you than the
merchandise you pur
chase? Are you buying
bargains that are worth
the cost? Or does getting
the goods at a bargain
price over ride the need
and usefulness of the
merchandise? If you
can’t use the item, it’s not
a bargain regardless of
the cost.
Depressed Buyers --
Buying is often a com
pensation when you are
“down in the dumps”.
Some people consume
chocolate candy when
depressed, while others
buy clothes or furniture
or get a new hairstyle.
We all have days that
are frustrating and leave
us gloomy. Buying
merchandise may relieve
the depression and be
good for emotions, but it
may be very costly. If

perhaps you need to look
further into the cause of
your depression and try
working on other ways to
solve it.
Spiteful Buyers -- When
we feel neglected or no
one pays attention to us,
we might go out and buy
some merchandise. This
would be alright if it
made us feel good and
helped us get over our
feeling of neglect.
However, most spiteful
buyers make purchases
to annoy someone in the
family. They tend to buy
things they really don’t
like, complain about it
and make themselves
and their family even
more unhappy about the
purchase.
Individual Buyers --
Many people are willing
to pay extra money for
merchandise that makes
them stand out from the
crowd. They want to be
recognized as distinct
individuals. Merchants
have recognized this need
and prepared special
products and advertising
that appeals to the in
dividualized buyer. Have
you paid extra to get
something personally
suited to your taste? Was
the satisfaction worth the
cost?
Wishful Buyers -- Much
of the advertising in
America is «directed at
